THIS is why we do what we do! 🀩

Colleen is the newest addition to our team, but is no newbie to providing effective pain relief. She consistently exceeds client expectations with her compassionate, results-driven bodywork. ❀️πŸ’ͺ

"Colleen was an instant success, she really listens, seems to know what to do to help immediately and progresses from there. She is a rare combination of skills. She changes modality as needed and is sincerely interested and listens to you.

If you want 100% don't make an appointment with Colleen because she gives 150%. I am happy to say I am way ahead of my schedule in my healing because of her."

In times of crisis, first responders are not just the first on the scene, but often the last to leave.

Our local (and out of state) heroes have been working tirelessly for weeks to keep us safe and restore utilities, communication, and transportation. It's all too easy to take these things for granted, but counting each and every blessing is how we move forward. Through this recovery period and beyond. πŸ™πŸΌ

So we are honored to be able to give back to our first responders with the gift of massage therapy.

Through the end of the year, first responders may receive 50% OFF a therapeutic massage*.

We know many of you are eager to get back in and receive some much-needed bodywork. So we are excited to announce that water has returned to the studio and we are treating clients again! πŸ™‚

Colleen and Grace are available immediately. Zach and Amber will join very soon. (Join their waitlist to be notified - https://www.ashevillemedicalmassage.com/waitlists/)

Not Quite Ready? πŸ€”

We also know that some of you are out of town or preoccupied. If so, we ask that you consider purchasing an egift card in the meantime. https://brownmountainbodywork.com/gift-cards

We are very fortunate that the studio and all of our staff are safe. However, the unexpected closure has put a strain on us and egift cards would be a tremendous help in the meantime. πŸ™πŸ½

Helene's Heroes 🦸🏼

The response from the community to come together and support each other has been awe inspiring. We are looking at ways that we can support those who have been instrumental in recovery efforts. There are sooo many! Do you know of any unsung heroes? This could be an individual, group, or organization.

Let us know who deserves some TLC! πŸ’†πŸΌ

We are simultaneously devastated and inspired by the recent events in Western North Carolina. I (Zach) have lived in Asheville almost my entire life and my roots here go back generations. My grandfather grew up in a β€œholler” of Jonathan Creek, just north of Lake Junaluska. ⛰️

It is crushing to see many of these small Appalachian communities decimated in an area that was traditionally though of as β€œsafe” from natural disasters. Earthquakes were a California thing. Tornadoes were a Midwest thing. Hurricanes a coastal thing. πŸŒͺ️

But it is also inspiring to see neighbors stepping up to serve and support each other without hesitation or compensation. Strangers lending a hand whenever and however they can. (This is our true nature when all the BS is stripped away.) πŸ«‚

Amber and I have evacuated to stay with family in Raleigh. Grace and Colleen are both accounted for and safe. The studio is in good shape and awaiting our return. We are truly touched by your inquiries and appreciate your concern. We consider ya’ll our extended family and look forward to reconnecting with all of you soon. In the meantime, we are focused on reestablishing basic needs while supporting our families and neighbors. πŸ’ͺ🏽

We will be in touch with additional updates as things evolve. Please let us know how you are holding up in the comments. We would love to know how you are doing and, if possible, how we can help. πŸ’¬

Fall has officially arrived and like many of you, we’re thrilled! We’re not big on pumpkin spice lattes πŸ˜‹, but we do LOVE the transition seasons of spring and fall. The weather in this part of Appalachia is divine and it’s always a pleasure to witness the mountain foliage transform.

This season brings a host of outdoor activities from hiking the πŸ₯Ύ , to camping in the πŸ•οΈ, and biking along the πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈ .

It’s also a time when our bodies are preparing for cooler weather and transitioning from the hot, busy summer season. This makes it a great time to get some bodywork too! C'mon in for a tune up to help you ease into autumn.

September is Awareness Month.

In 2001, the American Chronic Pain Association led a coalition of groups to create the first Pain Awareness Month.

is defined as persistent pain lasting at least three months.

It affects more than 50 million adults in the U.S. and costs the nation up to $635 billion annually.

People with chronic pain are three times more likely to develop and than those without chronic pain.

Chronic pain is significantly more prevalent in women than men. πŸ‘πŸ½

Exercise can reduce pain sensitivity by 60%.

If you’re not directly impacted by chronic pain, chances are you know someone who is. ❀️

As Summer comes to a close and we turn toward Autumn on the horizon, we're also thrilled to welcome Colleen Beyler as the newest member of our team! 😁

Colleen comes to us from Austin, TX and adds 6 years of experience to the team. Her touch is slow, deep and specific, combining effective, results-driven bodywork with kindness and compassion. She enjoys problem-solving and helping clients through injury and chronic pain. πŸ’ͺ

We think she's awesome 😎, but we are, admittedly, just a little biased. πŸ˜‰ So don't just take our word for it...

"I have chronic pain in my neck and I’ve tried everything under the sun. In one session, she was able to get me pain-free! She worked on muscles I’ve never had any one else work on.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chelsea J."

"I’ve seen more lasting improvement working with Colleen, than anyone else. She is super attentive to my needs and requests.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amanda T."

We'll be closed next week for a much needed team retreat to recharge and reconnect. πŸ–οΈ 🌴 🍹

Not-so-fun fact: We actually don't get to connect with each other at the studio much. 😒 It's mostly just through fun, silly notes via the team whiteboard in between sessions. πŸ˜„

If you need anything though, feel free to reach out as usual and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Got issues with your tissues? Therapeutic massage can treat much more than just back pain.

We had a dentist come in recently seeking back pain relief. With long hours working with his patients and an active golf game, he was noticing more discomfort in his upper back lately. He was having trouble sleeping and his golf game was suffering too. πŸ₯΄

During an initial evaluation, we found that his hips and lumbar spine were exceptionally tight. After treating these areas, his overall range of motion improved, he was sleeping better, and his golf game improved! 😴 🏌️

During a follow up session for his back, he mentioned "Now if I can just fix my elbow, I'll be all set." It never occurred to him that massage therapy could help with that too! 🀯

That's our mistake though. We failed to communicate all the ways massage therapy can help reduce pain and increase range of motion. πŸ’ͺ

So here are just a few extra ways therapeutic massage can help us stay active and living meaningful lives. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

After weeks of extra hours on nights and weekends, it's finally alive and I (Zach) can get back to some much needed self-care so I can better serve clients. β°πŸ§ŸπŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€

Shoulders are pretty sophisticated joints. They are extremely mobile and as a result, require support from our muscles for stability. πŸ’ͺ

Sometimes the structure and tissues around the shoulder prevent them from moving freely, creating pain and discomfort. 😒

Fortunately, slow and gentle deep tissue massage can go a loooong way toward freeing up stuck shoulders. πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

Reach out if you have a sticky shoulder and we'll get you movin' again! πŸ‘Š

"I am regaining mobility in my shoulder! After months of ongoing discomfort, periodic pain, stiffness and inability to lift my arm over my head, I have had a breakthrough after our last session. I am so relieved to see improvement! Thank you so much Grace!"
