First solo vacation. It’s been a slog but I think it’s getting better and am hopeful I’ll enjoy it at some point. I can do hard things. 🧿

First solo vacation was a rocky start. I can do hard things. Tomorrow will be a good day.

One of the hardest parts of being autistic is how often what’s happening in my nervous system gets mistaken for a character flaw.

Especially by therapists and healthcare providers.

Today I got cortisone injections in my feet for pain related to a well-known autism-associated issue that no one ever assessed me for. My body had a significant physiological response, and what felt especially hard was how easily something like that can get reduced to the idea that I’m just not trying hard enough to stay calm.

But I am trying.
My system is trying.

My autistic brain does not filter stress and body signals the way many people’s do. It tracks them, analyzes them, and keeps them front and center until they make sense.

So when I’m visibly activated, that is not me being dramatic.
It is not me refusing to regulate.
It is not me failing to use skills.

It is my nervous system doing exactly what it does.

And it is painful to be judged by people who should understand the difference.

Well… a little video I posted about the British Journeyman car turn signals blew up (60k views in a day), and the comment section has been shockingly cruel.

I’m not used to that — I’ve made 200+ videos and almost never get personal attacks. This one has a lot of name-calling and “you’re stupid” energy.

Just sharing because it’s been a weird emotional whiplash. Also: I’m really grateful for my YouTube community.

Over a year after Hurricane Helene and still cleaning up fallen trees from the yard. Little by little seems overwhelming at times, but I’m grateful to have had a good crew out today.

Are the people you follow content creators or advocates? Knowing the difference is essential to getting health care.

For a lot of my kiddos high school can track as too high a demand environment which pushes their nervous systems to exhaustion. This isn’t a character flaw this is a system failure.
