Are you a rising high school senior with a strong interest in a healthcare career?

The MAHEC Medical Mentoring Program is now accepting applications for next year's Fall and Spring cohorts. This competitive, honors level internship provides structured clinical shadowing and direct exposure to real healthcare environments in Western North Carolina.

Eligible applicants are current high school juniors and must have the following:
-A serious interest in a healthcare career
-A minimum 3.0 weighted GPA
-Attend Asheville City, Buncombe County, Henderson County public schools; Asheville Christian Academy, or Odyssey School
-Can provide a recommendation letter
-Have reliable transportation

Designed for motivated students ready for a serious, hands-on experience in medicine and the health professions.

The MAHEC Medical Program is a semester long experience for upperclassmen in Buncombe and Henderson County students interested in exploring healthcare careers through mentorship, clinical shadowing and hands-on learning. This immersive program provides opportunities to:

Last month, our Health Careers team had such a meaningful morning with Henderson County educators – from elementary to middle to high school CTE. Their dedication, creativity, and genuine care for their students is inspiring.

We loved sharing more about MAHEC’s Pathway Programming and giving a behind-the-scenes look at the Simulation Center. Moments like these remind us how much possibility lives in our classrooms and how powerful it is when educators and community partners work together to open doors for students.

We’re grateful for their commitment and excited for what we’ll build together for the next generation of health care professionals!

MAHEC’s Simulation Center hit the road last month at West Henderson High School for a hands-on healthcare learning experience with the Falcons.

Students rotated through real clinical scenarios, practiced decision-making and explored future healthcare pathways – all right in their own school!
