What has your inner dialogue been like lately? Have you been “shoulding” yourself????
When we “should” ourselves our nervous system often responds as if it is under threat in the form of being shamed.
Shame is an incredibly powerful emotional experience that can send our nervous system in freeze mode, and/or shutdown states of dissociation or collapse.
Shutting ourself down with shoulds keeps us in cycles of disempowerment and shame spirals.
Changing the language of our inner dialogue with just one word can shift our internal state and help us to create a new cycle in which we feel more empowered and more resourced in our nervous system.
