Good News Ghee

Good News Ghee small batch Appalachian made ghee : cultured + grass fed FAQs:

Q: What is ghee? Q: How is ghee different than butter? A: Ghee is essentially "butter oil". A: Yes!

A: Ghee is a traditional and sacred food of India and a staple of Ayurvedic medicine -and- it is the "clarified butter" that your grandma used to make. Ghee is made by slowly simmering butter and then saving the butter oil/fat, leaving behind the proteins (casein and whey) and the milk solids (which includes lactose). Q: What are the health benefits of ghee? A: "Much like butter, ghee has gotten a

bad reputation over the past 30 years due to its high saturated fat content. But research has revealed that instead of increasing the risk of heart disease, ghee actually decreases it — and that’s not the only trick it has up its sleeve. Ghee made from grass-fed butter is packed with vitamins A, D, E and K, as well as fatty acids CLA and butyric acid." Resources:

Q: I'm lactose intolerant. Can I eat ghee? A: Because the milk proteins and solids are strained out of the ghee after cooking, ghee should not contain any casein, whey, or lactose. Therefore, it is easily digestible for those who are sensitive to lactose. Q: What do you mean by "grass-fed"? A: "Grass-fed" means that the butter I source to make my ghee is made from the milk from cows who eat grass. These cows are fed a 97% grass diet with very little grains, if any. This is important because the grass provides the cows important nutrition. Q: Which brand of butter do you use to make your ghee? A: I use Kerrygold unsalted butter. This butter comes all the way from Ireland where the grass is lush and the cows graze on fresh grass 300+ days per year. It makes a delicious ghee and is of superior quality. For more about Kerrygold's practices, visit their website. Q: Why don't you source local butter for your ghee? A: Great question! I would LOVE to. I have searched *high and low* for a local bulk source of butter from grass-fed cows and have yet to find a local source that meets my quality standards, desired quantity, and budget. If you can connect me with a local, regional, or even a domestic source for grass fed butter in bulk quantity at wholesale price, please email me at goddessghee@gmail.com. Q: How long will your ghee remain shelf stable? A: If ghee is sealed well and doesn't acquire moisture it will keep without refrigeration for 3 months. If it's kept sealed and refrigerated it will keep for up to a year. Q: Where can I purchase your ghee? A: You can purchase it directly through me - or - you can soon find it at the following local markets:

French Broad Food CoOp
West Village Market

Q: Are you willing to barter/trade? I welcome barters and trades. Email me at goddessghee@gmail.com to make an offer. Q: I live far away. Will you mail me some ghee? A: Sure! Please contact me at goddessghee@gmail.com for special orders. I am happy to send ghee in the mail.

On Friday afternoon, after many hours of huddling over my baby and children to protect them from potential trees falling on our yurt home, we braved the outdoors to find that our local roads were washed away, our cars were trapped, and we had no electricity or phone service. I spent the first few days just organizing perishable food between me and my neighbors because we had no clue how long we’d be trapped out there.

Yesterday I finally made it out of my hometown (which still doesn’t have electricity, but the roads are getting temporarily repaired with gravel) and I discovered that our beautiful riverside office where Goddess Ghee lives went completely under water. All of our ghee inventory and everything we used to package, ship, and distribute the ghee was destroyed (and apparently everything is covered in toxic waste).

I have not totaled the dollar amount of loss, but it’s above $20k easily, and potentially much more. I honestly don’t think I can stomach it right now to add it all up.

But I did go ahead and set up a fundraiser on our website because I know there are people out there who want to help. 🤍

Thankfully our commercial kitchen in Barnardsville was spared, so as soon as we can get a temporary office set up, purchase everything we need to function, and the electricity comes back, we can start making ghee again.

For anyone who has placed orders recently : I’m so sorry, but they drowned! 😭 As soon as we can make more ghee we will be sending your orders out. You are welcome to a refund if you email us. For everyone else: feel free to place orders and we will send them as soon as we get back in action.

It’s hard to ask for donations knowing that SO MANY people need help right now for basic survival. But this is a huge loss for our small business and I want to get us back in business as soon as we can. None of the loss is covered by insurance or FEMA (the SBA is offering low interest LOANS to impacted businesses, as if we need to take on debt on top of huge losses 🫣)

I will post more updates soon. Thank you to everyone who has donated already. We’ve raised almost $3k. 🙌🏽

Hi my people!

Thank you for those who have checked on me. 🤍

We’re safe. My yurt survived the storm by nothing short of grace. Two of my closest neighbors had trees on their homes. But the area I call home got hit haaard and we’re still without electricity for a while. No biggie for us because my home is on gravity fed spring water and my propane stove has been keeping me and my neighbors eating well. My neighbors have been amazing and I’m grateful to live out in the country. 🙌🏽

My business Goddess Ghee took a devastating hit as our office in Marshall went completely under water and all of our inventory and packaging supplies are irredeemable. A minimum of $20k in losses there that won’t be covered by insurance or fema. I was able to get to a nearby town today for internet so I could set up a fundraiser (link below).

I have no idea when we’ll be back in business, but I am grateful to have a home. Many of my neighbors do not. 😢

I’ll check in more soon.

Prayers up for all who are recovering from this. 💧💧💧

Our drool-worthy Autumn 🍂 blends are here!

The winds of change are blowing in and with them come cool mornings and cozy sweaters. I hope you all are feeling rooted and warm in this change of season.

What a perfect reason it is for a dollop of our Autumn Spiced Ghee atop a bowl of warm overnight soaked oats, on a roasted pumpkin or sweet potato, or frothed into hot coffee or tea! This beloved seasonal blend features our grass-fed luscious ghee + truly raw Appalachian honey whipped with Ceylon Cinnamon, Ginger, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Cloves, Star Anise, and Celtic Sea Salt.

Think pumpkin pie in a jar. 🥧

ALSO! 🥁

Garam Masala Ghee is back for a limited time to warm our tastebuds and bellies as we bundle up.

The spice blend “garam masala” is traditionally used in Northern India as a finishing blend to bring a dish together.

It’s a swirl of our ghee + cumin, coriander, cardamom, black pepper, ceylon cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and celtic sea salt.

Y’all. It is crazy delish.

We cook just about *everything* in this one.

Toast. Eggs. Meat. Veggies. Everything.

There are no rules. Except maybe don’t put it in your coffee. But if you do, and it turns out amazing, let us know. ;-)

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself on here. ☺️ I’ll save the incriminating facts for another post (soon!) but for now I have an upcoming online class that I’m hoping to trick the algorithm into promoting by putting my cute baby on the grid. 😅

I’m the mama of 3 cuties + Goddess Ghee. I started .ghee 9 years ago because I became obsessed with ghee after it nourished me through postpartum. Aaand. I needed to create an inspiring, creative income that would allow me to provide for myself and babies without compromising myself as a mother, first and foremost.

At that time there were hardly any small batch ghee brands to purchase from and nobody was selling herbal ghee blends like mine. I figured out the methods we use through trial and error because even the Great Google God did me wrong (please, never cook the herbs in with the butter - they will certainly burn). 🔥

After a few years I realized that there are soooo many misunderstandings about ghee - especially how to make it! So I began teaching folks how. I also found that many people didn’t like the taste of ghee, but would end up LOVING it after trying mine. (They were eating rancid clarified butter that was labeled “ghee”, which is what most brands sell.) 🥴

Since then I’ve been teaching people all over the world how to make really good ghee, and honestly I feel that the world is *a butter place* because of it. 🧈😋

If you’re ready to uplevel your ghee game I’d love to have you in my live online class on March 22nd, CRAFTING CULINARY + HERBAL GHEE! There will be time for live Q&A and a recording will be available to everyone who is pre-registered. ***This class is intended for home use only, not for helping you start a ghee business.*** 🤗
