Happy Foundation FORUM Friday! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 3rd Annual Foundation Forum! We’ve already heard such positive feedback. Together, we walked through an overview of our funds and balances, fiscal year-to-date giving and impact, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and more.

We also had some of our staff join to talk about Foundation sponsored initiatives that have added value to their respective work as well. Special shout-outs to:

Kaleena Betts, Healthcare Activities Coordinator, who wowed the room with stories of the many residents who've had positive experiences with Rendever Virtual Reality and even performed live demos to showcase how virtual travel and shared experiences are boosting connection and joy on campus.

Faith Perkins, Chief Human Resources Officer, who shared how the Employee Clinic is improving access, convenience, and overall wellness for our Deerfield team.

AND

Healthcare staff who gave us such impactful feedback on the successes and lessons learned from Mary Donnelly's training on caring for patients with dementia.

Missed it? We shared a recap in today's Strong Foundations newsletter. Want to watch it? The recording will be live on MyDeerfield on Monday, August 18. Have ideas or topics you’d love us to cover next time? We’re listening!

This Foundation Friday, we are celebrating a milestone accomplishment by the Carolina Mountain Club in hurricane recovery and shouting the biggest THANK YOU to all their dedicated volunteers and staff.

After Hurricane Helene, trails across WNC - including much of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the popular Mountains-to-Sea Trail - were left blocked by fallen trees and storm debris, cutting off access to beloved outdoor spaces.

The Carolina Mountain Club has been working tirelessly to clear and restore these trails, directly impacting Deerfield residents and our neighbors by reconnecting them to nature and green spaces during recovery.

The Deerfield Charitable Foundation is proud to support this effort with a $50,000 gift—and a pledge of a dollar-for-dollar match, up to an additional $50,000, to help build CMC’s endowment for deeper reserves and consistent funding.

Together, we’re restoring the trails that restore us. 🥾💚

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to the A-B Tech's Hot Food Team for their national gold medal win in Las Vegas! Team member Jack Ramsey was the recipient of our Danny Boone Scholarship in 2023 and 2024 while working as a prep cook in our main kitchen. Jack is also the grandson of a current Deerfield resident! This Foundation Friday we are pleased to share that our Deerfield Charitable Foundation Board had the honor of meeting with Tom Akins, President and CEO of LeadingAge North Carolina, and Sara Flynn-Loy, Chair of the LeadingAge NC Foundation. Their visit was a powerful reminder of the essential role that advocacy, education, and support play in the future of aging services across our state.

The LeadingAge North Carolina Foundation exists solely to support the mission and work of LeadingAge NC. With a focus on five key building blocks, workforce expansion, advocacy, advanced research, agility and impact, and deeper reserves, the LeadingAge NC Foundation is committed to shaping a future where older adults are respected, supported, and empowered.

Currently holding a $3 million endowment, the Foundation has set an ambitious goal to more than double that, and reach $7 million to meet the growing needs of North Carolina’s aging population. Tom and Sara shared their vision and answered thoughtful questions from our board in a heartfelt and inspiring presentation.

In response, the Deerfield Charitable Foundation Board voted to support this bold endeavor with a substantial commitment: $75,000 per year for the next five years. It was a truly awe-inspiring moment, sparked by the clarity of LeadingAge NC Foundation's vision and the shared belief in a future where all can age with dignity.

We are proud to stand alongside such dedicated partners as we invest in a better tomorrow.

🌸 Celebrating 17 Years of BLT – Bring Love to Tables! 🌸

What started the summer of 2008 with a simple question—“Why not real flowers?”—blossomed into a beloved Deerfield tradition! From humble beginnings with 35 tables and no floral experience, Loretta Heiser and a team of passionate volunteers transformed dining spaces with fresh arrangements, laughter, and love.

Over the years, BLT has:

*Delivered thousands of floral arrangements to brighten residents’ days 🌼
*Partnered with local and international flower sources 🌍
*Hosted unforgettable fundraisers like the Dog & Cat Show 🐶🐱
*Built a joyful, all-volunteer community rooted in kindness and creativity 💕
*Here’s to the volunteers, donors, and dreamers who’ve made BLT bloom for 17 beautiful years—and to many more ahead! 💐

This Foundation Friday, we'd like to give a HUGE thanks to YOU! Because of your generosity and care our school supply drive soared past its goal!

We planned to fund 370 fully stocked backpacks in honor of the 70th anniversary, but thanks to a lower-than-anticipated supply cost this year, we raised enough for an incredible 478 backpacks! 📚🖍️✂️

This past Tuesday, July 22, United Way joined our amazing resident volunteers who gathered in the Deerfield Community Center to pack 300 of those bags in one joyful, efficient morning (making a mountain of supplies look like easy work - see proof in the timelapse video). 💪

These backpacks are now on their way to students across the community - fully stocked and ready to help them start the school year with confidence and pride.

Thank you to everyone who donated, packed, or cheered us on.
What a way to start the school year! 💛
