What a party!

Celebrating the generosity of our Deerfield Legacy Society Members on Sunday evening, we enjoyed curated cocktails, meaningful connections, and fabulous food. Our dedicated leadership team welcomed guests and both Deerfield and Foundation board members for this annual gathering. Special guest, Mark Constantine, Senior VP of Community Investment with Dogwood Health Trust, shared with us Dogwood's commitment to serving seniors and the organizations that support them in our region. The evening ended the way every good gathering should - with house-made chocolate torte and boxes of Chocolate Fe**sh treats for later!

🎉𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐲𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝! 🐮🐔🐰

This past weekend the Deerfield Activity Team hosted our Third Annual Barnyard Bash—a joyful event for our Healthcare Residents, their families, and our employee families and children.

🍗 We feasted on BBQ, fried chicken, and all the fixings, followed by sweet treats like lemon pies, banana pudding, and ice cream.

🌧️ When rain made a surprise appearance, we quickly pivoted and brought the Zuber Petting Zoo indoors! The goats, cow, llamas, chickens, and bunnies brought smiles to everyone and added to the carefree, fun-filled evening.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event so special!

Deerfield has taken another step toward sustainability with the installation of solar panels at 49 Glastonbury Lane. The system is expected to generate 13,706 kWh of electricity annually, significantly reducing the home's reliance on the grid.
With our resident cottages averaging a monthly electric bill of $184, this solar setup is projected to save approximately $148 per month, offsetting most of the home's energy costs. While the estimated cost payback period is around 30 years, the immediate monthly savings offers meaningful environmental and financial benefits.

This solar installation also includes a 13.5 kWh battery, capable of powering the home for 6 to 8 hours under standard usage. When paired with solar generation, this battery enhances the home's resilience, allowing it to remain fully operational during extended power outages.

And a special thanks to Sugar Hollow Solar who installed this investment that not only supports Deerfield’s continued pursuit towards environmental sustainability but also strengthens our energy independence, one resident at a time.

As Deerfield and the greater Asheville community round out a year following Helene, it’s an anniversary we greet with mixed emotions.

We still share sadness as the sense of loss lingers. But we share gratitude for all that was and all that is, gathering today as a community to commemorate this anniversary with “The Night Before: A Service of Healing and Hope.” We marked this moment in the way that always ensures we are at our best - together.

Through poetry and readings, meditations, and song, we lifted our hearts to honor the way our community not only survived, but thrived through the storm and beyond.

Very special thanks to Deerfield Spiritual Life, our talented musicians, and to our very special guests from Camp Deerfield, Jr., who ended our service with a reminder to let our lights shine.

As we take the Helene experience forward with us, we celebrate resiliency, community and hope, all with gratitude for one another.

FOUNDATION FRIDAY!

Our Annual Legacy Society Gala is right around the corner. One of the ways we honor Legacy members is by recognizing and celebrating birthdays. On any given day, you will see Michelle Wooley delivering a sweet treat to a member’s door.

Deerfield had a WONDERFUL time on this very special Foundation Friday celebrating and thanking our area first responders during our second annual Salute2U Drive Thru! We are so grateful for the dozens of police, sheriff, fire, and EMS who took the time out of their busy day to drive through our campus so that we could shower our appreciation (and some fun swag bags) on them!

This event is a highlight for our campus and hard-working first responders alike and was made possible by the Deerfield Charitable Foundation. Deerfield is preparing to greet on-duty and off-duty first responders from fire, EMS, and police stations across Buncombe County at our second annual Salute2U Drive Thru this Friday, September 12!

Yesterday Deerfield residents gathered to assemble 200 goodie bags that will be made available to first responders as they come through our event. We also crafted hundreds of little pieces of artwork that will line our roadways as we welcome first responders to our campus for event all about them.

The Salute2U Drive Thru is sponsored by the Deerfield Charitable Foundation and gives our local heroes the opportunity to receive gratitude and goodies as we officially say THANK YOU for the way that they support all of us. If you are a first responder or know one, please make sure that they have information on how to participate. The event will run from 4-6pm and is open to all first responders in the area!
