Homegrown Families: Asheville Childbirth Education & Doula Services Growing Strong Communities through Education, Support, and Connection during Pregnancy, Childbirth and into Parenthood.

Homegrown Families provides childbirth education and doula services with the aim to deconstruct the systems of white supremacy and racism within health care, creating opportunities for equitable access to collective community care across under-resourced and historically marginalized communities. We support our clients no matter how parents choose to give birth or parent their children. We give the highest quality information and allow parents the spaciousness to make the decisions that are right for their family. We normalize what parents are going through and provide hands-on, empathetic, compassionate care.

🌈 Newborn Care with Courage 🌈
Tuesday, March 17 · 5–8pm

Bringing home a baby is beautiful — and it can also feel like… wait, now what?

This class is designed to help you feel more confident and less overwhelmed in those early weeks.

We’ll cover:
✔️ Diapering, feeding basics, and reading newborn cues
✔️ Safe sleep and what’s normal in those early weeks
✔️ The many physical changes in the first days and weeks of life
✔️ Why newborn breathing can be irregular and faster than adults, normal sounds, and important warning signs

Because those first days aren’t about perfection; they’re about support, rhythm, and knowing what’s normal.

Reserve your seat through the link in our bio.

✨There’s nothing we love more than celebrating growing families in our community!

We had such a wonderful time at The Little Gym's Community Baby Shower this weekend! 💜

We’re so grateful to have been invited as a vendor and to connect with so many growing families in our community. Getting to chat about birth, postpartum support, and newborn care with parents is exactly why we love what we do.

Thank you to everyone who came by to chat with us! Asheville has such an amazing village!

It’s time for a Homegrown Families tip, y’all 💡
Let’s talk about Daylight Savings Time 👶
🗓️ Sun, Mar 8, 2026

When the clocks change, your baby doesn’t magically adjust. Here’s how to make it easier:

🌙 Evening Wind-down
Before and during bedtime, reduce stimulation — dim the lights, play calm music, speak softly

🫡 Stay the Course
Shift your baby’s sleep schedule by about 15 minutes at a time in the days leading up to the change

⏰ Consistent Routine
Stick to the same order each night — bath, feed, book, bed — so they know what’s coming next

😴 Soothing Environment
A dark room and a steady sound machine can make a big difference when baby is fighting sleep

"As the birth Doula for my wife, MaryKate was amazing beyond anything we could have imagined. We are so thankful she was there with us at the hospital. She took full control of the ambiance of the room in setting up dim calming lights and a wonderful smelling diffuser. Her encouragement and direction throughout the labor, positioning and massaging and more, made the experience as comfortable and productive as it could be. She is clearly an experienced professional with respect from all the doctors and nurses in the room. We consider ourselves very lucky that she was available for us. Her impact was overwhelmingly positive.”

Micah, thank you — this is exactly why we do this work!
If you’re feeling nervous about birth, you don’t have to walk into that room alone.
We got you.

🍑 Get off your sass and join our Stroller Revolution! 👶🛞

We’re starting back up again on March 3rd and rolling out every Tuesday at 10am at Woodfin Riverside Park 🌳✨

We just had a little sneak peek of sunshine on our faces — and if that’s what you need right now, come join us. ☀️

Running late? No biggie. There’ll be a whole gaggle of strollers looping for over an hour.

Bring your stroller, your pregnant belly, your toddler, your grandparents, your partner — and the version of you that needs some fresh air and other adults. ☀️🫶 Toddlers are welcome to roam safely in the middle field while we walk.

✨ Interested in helping lead (regularly or occasionally)? Reach out — we’d love a few stroller captains.

Tag your Tuesday crew and let’s roll. 💥

💗 Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance.
For a lot of parents, it can quietly stir up something deeper.

If becoming a parent has brought up complicated feelings about your own mom—
things you thought you’d already worked through,
or things you didn’t even have language for—
that doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

This is often called the mother wound.
It can show up as:
😔 grief
🔥 anger
🥹 tenderness
😞 guilt
💪 a fierce desire to do things differently
Sometimes all at once.

Here’s what we want you to hear today 💞
✨ You can love your child deeply and feel sadness about what you didn’t receive.
✨ You can honor where you came from and choose a new way forward.
✨ Healing doesn’t mean blaming—it means noticing, naming, and caring for yourself with honesty.

This Valentine’s Day, love doesn’t have to look like roses or date nights.
It can look like gentleness toward yourself.
Curiosity instead of judgment.
Breaking cycles slowly, imperfectly, and with support.

You are allowed to mother yourself, too.
And you don’t have to do that work alone 🤍

Birth isn’t just what happens — it’s dozens of tiny decisions layered together 🧠✨
And trying to sort those out while in labor? Hard no. 😅⛔️

These planning pages exist for one big reason:
👉 so your brain doesn’t have to work when your body is doing the work 💪🫶

Because birth can quickly turn into:
• I thought I’d remember to say that 😬
• Wait—was this important to me? 🤔
• Why am I suddenly negotiating preferences between contractions?? 😵‍💫

Nope. We plan before. 📋

✨ talking through support needs
✨ laying out comfort preferences
✨ packing intentionally (not panic-packing) 🎒
✨ thinking ahead about postpartum help 🛏️🍲
✨ deciding what matters most—and what can stay flexible 🌿

This isn’t about controlling birth 🚫📋
It’s about clarity 🧠✨

When expectations are shared ahead of time:
🫶 partners don’t freeze
🧠 birthing people feel safer and more supported
📄 providers know what matters to you
💬 fewer decisions have to be made in the moment

Birth is intense enough 🔥
You shouldn’t also be explaining your needs from scratch while contractions are rolling in

Planning doesn’t make birth rigid ❌
It makes it gentler 💛

And honestly?
Future-you (and your nervous system) will be very, very grateful 🫶
