In a recent leadership meeting, someone was excited about a new project so they were throwing out assorted projects they might tackle. Another team-member said, "would you like to make a SMART goal?" It was an invitation to drill down to the simplest terms around a project. Now they can focus on their goal, measure their progress, and depend on the built-in accountability. We don't just coach these concepts, we use them!

Training Tuesday! Human beings do not think their way into regulation. We sense, feel, move, rest, and nourish ourselves into states of groundedness, calm, and clarity. Regulation is physiological before it is cognitive; it is the foundation that makes reflection, learning, and intentional choice possible. At LifeTutors, we recognize that emotional regulation, sleep, nutrition, movement, mindfulness, and social connection are not separate wellness goals, but interdependent conditions that shape executive function, motivation, and developmental capacity. Our work begins by helping participants notice these patterns and understand how caring for the body strengthens clarity of mind and supports forward movement in their lives.

Training Tuesday! Another foundation of the LifeTutors model is Motivational Interviewing (MI). It plays an important role in our coaching, particularly with emerging adults who are learning to navigate identity, agency, and independence. Rather than telling clients what to do, MI helps them clarify what matters to them and strengthen their capacity to make decisions aligned with their own values. Through reflective conversation, participants move from externally driven behavior toward internally guided action—building self-trust, ownership and confidence in their ability to choose their path forward. In this way, the coach is neither the driver nor the passenger, but a guide walking alongside the participant as they learn to steer their own life.

Fun Facts About the Bee-Flower Relationship:
1. Flowers have a negative electrical charge, and positive-charged bees sense this to find them, with the pull indicating if another bee recently visited.
2. Bees are smart—they often practice "flower constancy," visiting only one species of flower in a trip, which ensures efficient pollination for the plant.
3. Dating Back 120 Million Years: Bees and flowering plants evolved together, with bees acting as one of the first intentional pollinators.
4. Some Orchid species, like Ophrys, have evolved to look and smell exactly like female bees to trick male bees into "mating" with them, which results in pollination.

What have you noticed about your surroundings this Spring? How are you like the flower? Or the bee?

It's Training Tuesday! Some key features of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy provide one of the four foundations of our model.

In coaching, the Triflex offers a practical structure: notice what is happening internally, make space for it, then choose a values-based step forward. It prevents sessions from becoming either purely emotional processing or purely action planning. This structure integrates both!
The ACT Triflex doesn’t start or end in any particular place. No matter the order, these are the tenants that develop greater psychological flexibility and grant a greater sense of personal autonomy regardless of what is happening around them.
