🌹 Antique Offering 🌹
Pair of c. 1920’s Mirrored Wall Sconces, Attributed to Caldwell
$2,800

Elegant early 20th-century American mirrored wall sconces attributed to the Caldwell tradition, featuring scalloped antiqued mirror backplates and refined double bronze arms.

The sconces feature original antiqued mirror backplates with decoratively shaped and beveled edges in a shell-form design characteristic of the Art Nouveau–to–early Art Deco transition. The mottled surface appearance is consistent with intentional period antiquing rather than later deterioration.

Internally, there is evidence of early cloth wiring, with later mid-century wiring remnants present; however, the wiring is currently cut and non-functional. These sconces will require complete professional rewiring prior to installation and are offered as antique decorative lighting.

While no maker’s mark is present, the materials, construction, proportions, and overall design are consistent with sconces produced in the manner of E. F. Caldwell, a leading American lighting firm of the early 20th century. Comparable examples are listed on Chairish and 1stDibs for reference, with asking prices of $3,800–$6,800.

These sconces are well suited to historic interiors, traditional homes, Gothic Revival, Hollywood Regency, or layered modern spaces, and are ideal for bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms, or powder rooms.

Width mirror: 5.25” at widest

Long before Lazy Boy there was the Morris chair, the first reclining chair created in the late 1800’s in England. But….

You had to get up to manually adjust it! It was a little company in Sturgis, Michigan, known as the Royal Chair Co - that patented the push button reclining mechanism that you see on the chair here.

Royal was also known for features like retractable footrests and built-in newspaper baskets, details that made these chairs genuinely innovative for everyday comfort. This was high tech for the early 1900s, as you can see by the 8 patent numbers on the label.
