🚨 Understanding Hyper-Vigilance Syndrome 🚨

For many first responders, the job requires heightened alertness for long periods of time. Over time, this constant state of “high alert” can lead to Hyper-Vigilance Syndrome — a drastic swing between the on-duty and off-duty phases.

🛑 On-Duty: Quick thinking, super alert, energized, and even humorous.
🛑 Off-Duty: Lethargic, detached, apathetic, or angry.

This “rollercoaster” can take a serious toll on mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.
At Responder Support Services, we help first responders learn strategies to find balance and manage these swings before they become overwhelming.

📞 If you or someone you know is struggling, call 828-333-5708.
You don’t have to ride this rollercoaster alone.
