Ever heard of Ikigai?

Chad Krisel, MD and IFMA co-founder shares a Japanese concept that translates to “reason for being,” and it lives at the intersection of four powerful questions:

🧐 What do you love?
🧐 What are you good at?
🧐 What does the world need from you?
🧐 What can you be paid for?

When even two or three of these overlap, something shifts. Work feels lighter. Life feels more intentional. You stop running on autopilot and start moving with purpose.

And here’s the part people often miss:
Ikigai doesn’t have to be about money.

Volunteering. Caregiving. Creating. Teaching. Supporting others.
Purpose can show up in the quiet, unpaid spaces just as much as in a paycheck.

Ikigai is about understanding what makes you feel useful, fulfilled, and excited to wake up and letting that guide how you show up in the world.

Reminder for our South Asheville folks 👋

Integrative Family Medicine isn’t just in the River Arts District — we also have a convenient Arden location, making it easier to get the care you need a little closer to home.

✔️ Same relationship-based care.
✔️ Same focus on prevention and whole-person health.
✔️ Just closer to home (and way easier to fit into real life).

If you’re in Arden or South Asheville, this one’s for you. 💙

Part 2 of our Habit Series 👇

Last week Tom Everts, PA-C, our Director of Education, talked about habit stacking. This week, we’re going one layer deeper... because habits don’t stick without clarity.

Instead of vague goals like “I want to run a marathon,” try this shift 👉 “I’m the type of person who prioritizes movement every day.”

That’s an identity-based goal.

When you define:
✔️ what you’ll do
✔️ when you’ll do it
✔️ and who you’re becoming

Taking action gets easier. Consistency stops feeling like willpower and starts feeling like alignment.

If you missed last week’s video, scroll back and watch it first. And if you don’t want to miss the next piece of the habit puzzle, follow the page. This series is just getting good.

Integrative Family Medicine isn’t just for individuals and families! We also offer affordable primary care memberships for business owners looking to provide meaningful healthcare benefits for their teams.

Ever sat alone in an exam room wondering if anyone remembers you’re there? Your employees feel that same frustration... and when they’re stuck, your business is too.

After 20 years working with Asheville businesses, one truth keeps showing up: when employees struggle, the business struggles.

When teams get fast, relationship-based care, here’s what actually changes:
→ Fewer sick days
→ Fewer urgent care visits
→ Fewer “I can’t come in, my doctor can’t see me” texts

This isn’t theory. It works.

Healthy people work better. Healthy workplaces grow faster. And the businesses willing to use smarter healthcare solutions? They’re the ones that win.

If you want personal care for your team (not empty rooms and endless waiting), let’s talk.

We’re excited to share that we are a new business partner with !

Stroll Magazine is a neighborhood publication, written by and for neighbors, and that’s exactly why we love it. It highlights the people, stories, and small businesses that make Biltmore Park such a special place to live and work.

Supporting local, community-driven media matters to us. We’re proud to partner with a publication that celebrates connection, creativity, and what it truly means to be part of a neighborhood.

If you see it in your mailbox, flip through...it’s a good one. 💙

Trying to start a new habit and it just… doesn’t stick?
You’re not broken. You’re just starting from the wrong place.

Tom Everts, PA-C, Integrative Family Medicine of Asheville's Director of Education, shares a valuable strategy that helps you design a habit that works for you.

✨ Habit stacking is one of the easiest ways to build new habits because you don’t start from scratch.
You stack a new behavior onto something you already do on autopilot.

Think:
➡️ After I brush my teeth, I stretch for one minute
➡️ After I make my coffee, I write down three things I’m grateful for

Your existing habit becomes the cue.
The new habit feels natural.
And suddenly, consistency isn’t so hard.

Now that you understand the cue + reward loop, it’s time to design a habit that actually works for your life...right now.

👉 What habit are you stacking this week?

Integrative Medicine vs. Functional Medicine—what’s the difference?

Both approaches care deeply about root causes and whole-person health.
The difference is mostly in how care is delivered.

🌀 Functional Medicine often focuses on deep diagnostic testing and complex biochemical pathways to uncover underlying imbalances.

🌿 Integrative Medicine blends conventional medical care with evidence-informed complementary therapies—meeting you where you are and building sustainable care into everyday life.

Our practice is integrative, which means:
✔ We combine the best of conventional medicine with nutrition, lifestyle, and mind-body approaches
✔ We prioritize realistic, long-term wellness—not just protocols
✔ We partner with you to create care that fits your life

If you’re looking for thoughtful, whole-person care that’s practical, collaborative, and grounded in both science and compassion, integrative medicine may be a great fit 💚

We’re proud to share that Integrative Family Medicine is Living Wage Certified for 2026 💙

This certification matters to us—deeply.
It reflects our commitment to caring not just for our patients, but for the people who make this work possible every single day.

Paying a living wage means honoring our team’s time, skill, and humanity. It means supporting stability, dignity, and wellbeing—inside our practice and beyond it. And it aligns with what we believe healthcare should look like: ethical, sustainable, and rooted in care for the whole person.

We’re grateful to continue this commitment for another year and to be part of a community that values people over profit.

Because caring for health starts with how we care for each other.

❄️ Winter Health Check! 7 Tips to Stay Healthy & Happy All Season

Winter can feel like one long cold season marathon — but with a few proactive habits, you can crush it like a boss. 💪 Here’s your guide to staying energized, healthy, and mentally strong this winter:

1️⃣ Hydration Is Still a Thing
Cold temps make us forget water, but your body still needs it. Warm teas and broths count!

2️⃣ Prevent Illness
Get your flu shot, wash hands often, disinfect frequently touched spots, and sleep like it matters (because it does).

3️⃣ Eat for Immunity
Load up on citrus, leafy greens, nuts & healthy proteins to support your body’s defenses.

4️⃣ Keep Moving
Exercise = immune boost + mood booster. Aim for at least 150 min/week. Indoor workouts totally count!

5️⃣ Mental Health Matters
Short days can mess with your mood — get sunlight when you can, stay social (even virtually), and don’t hesitate to ask for professional help if you need it.

6️⃣ Protect Your Skin
Heating + cold air = dry skin. Moisturize, wear sunscreen (yes, still!), and run a humidifier.

7️⃣ Stay Safe Outside
Bundle up in layers, clear icy walkways, and take cold exposure seriously.

✨ Bonus Tip: Keep these habits consistent and your winter won’t stand a chance. Your body + mind will thank you later! 💛

What Our Patients Say (And They Say It A LOT) ✨

When people leave reviews, patterns start to show. And we’re proud of this feedback.

Here are the top compliments we hear again and again:

✔️ Kind, caring, genuinely compassionate staff
✔️ Providers who actually listen (no rushing, no brushing you off)
✔️ Thorough, attentive care that doesn’t miss the details
✔️ A comforting experience that feels nothing like a typical clinic
✔️ A friendly, welcoming environment from the moment you walk in
✔️ Short wait times and on-time appointments (yes, really)
✔️ Holistic, personalized care that looks at the whole you—nutrition, lifestyle, prevention
✔️ Steady support during stressful or serious health concerns
✔️ A true team approach where everyone has your back
✔️ Care that feels like a partnership, not a transaction

Bottom line?
Patients don’t just feel treated—they feel heard, supported, and cared for. And that’s exactly how primary care should feel.

💬 Curious what this kind of care feels like for you?
Come experience the difference.
