hello friends far and wide. Me and Marco and the pets are all safe, but we lost everything in the hurricane. Our house flooded beyond repair. We are staying with friends for the moment. My cell service has been spotty so many messages not getting through. I hope you all are staying safe out there. So much devastation and loss, but also feeling held by community showing up for us and each other during this time. We are taking things day by day. I'll keep you updated as I am able.

Sending love to you all. ~ Lee, Marco, Marble, Phoebe, Bina, and Biscotto

A bodywork practice is a way to support yourself to reset on a regular basis. We don’t always realize how much stress and intention has built up until we are overwhelmed by pain and injury.

When we have a practice to unwind, we reclaim energy, creativity, and vitality. As our nervous system hits reset and space is made in the tissues for new shapes to emerge. Each session builds on the last one and your system learns how to go deeper and release tension with more ease. Holding patterns reveal and overtime. The body lets go of protective responses and safety becomes restored.

Do you have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome or experience hypermobility? Maybe you have symptoms such as joint hypermobility, unstable joints, injuries that are slow to heal, joint dislocation, stretchy skin, bruises easily, or a history of sprains and strains?

What has your experience been receiving Bodywork? Did they go too deep and trigger a spasm or nerve pain? Did they overstretch you while also complementing you on your flexibility? Did you leave the session not feeling relaxed but instead feeling sore and overworked?

Far too often I hear from clients who have EDS or hypermobility how in the past they went to a Bodyworker that wasn’t informed about how to work with them, and how they ended up in more pain after the session. Here are a few ways that I approach Bodywork for EDS and hypermobility. 1. respect the joints and handle them with care no stretching necessary. 2. be conscious of old injuries that might not have healed. 3. work alongside protective impulses, not against them. 4. move slow and steady to allow time for de armoring to happen. 5. don’t overwork anyone area. 6. myofascial release works firm broad pressure but not aggressive. Mush spread and release the tissue without going too deep. 7. Stay present check in with pressure preferences and make sure what you are doing is working for them 8. remember that there is a potential that this person experienced a lifetime of medical trauma.

At Resilient Roots Bodywork, we are happy to support you in managing pain and tension from EDS and hypermobility with techniques that work best for you.
