Our residents enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Nature Center on a beautiful day, complete with a guided tour and plenty of time to explore. The experience offered meaningful insight into the wildlife of Western North Carolina, along with a deeper understanding of how the Nature Center partners with other organizations to help protect animals facing declining populations. We loved hosting future residents for our Make & Take Fiber Arts afternoon. Guided by our resident leaders from the fiber arts clubs, guests spent time creating, connecting, and learning together. Participants had the choice to take their finished piece home or donate it to the community outreach efforts our Fiber Arts Studio supports across Asheville. What happens when compassion, creativity, and commitment come together? Community is built, one meal at a time!

For nearly a decade, Givens Estates residents Bill Lowery and Alice Petersen have volunteered at 12 Baskets Cafe: a program of Asheville Poverty Initiative, helping transform unused meals into nourishment, connection, and dignity for neighbors across Asheville.

Nearly every Friday, Bill and Alice work alongside Givens Dining team members and dedicated community partners to ensure meals reach those who need them most, creating a welcoming space where everyone is invited to the table.

During a recent visit, the Givens Philanthropy Team experienced firsthand the warmth and belonging that define 12 Baskets Café. This inspiring partnership reflects the heart of Givens and the powerful ways our residents continue to serve beyond our campus.

These moments were captured at an event hosted by OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at UNC Asheville, where multiple CCRCs came together to connect and answer questions. Being part of opportunities like this is incredibly valuable, and we always appreciate the chance to engage in thoughtful conversations. We also enjoyed welcoming the Exploring CCRCs class to our campus as they continue learning about what community living can look like.
