Residents gathered to reflect on the year behind us and celebrate what lies ahead, enjoying lively entertainment, dancing, and time together with friends and neighbors. The Smoky Mountain Brass Band filled our community with rich, powerful sound during their recent performance at Givens Estates. From bold brass harmonies to moments of warmth and reflection, the music brought people together for an evening of shared appreciation and connection.

Givens Estates was proud to share the spirit of giving with Verner Center for Early Learning, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality early education and support to young children and their families in Buncombe County. Residents generously donated gifts that Verner picked up to bring joy and essential resources to children in the community. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped brighten a child’s holiday season!

Holiday creativity was on full display during ornament making in Independent Living. Residents crafted whimsical clay gnomes and experimented with painted and alcohol ink plastic gloves to create one of a kind seasonal decorations. The studio buzzed with laughter, color, and imagination as residents brought their holiday ideas to life together.

Residents gathered in the Open Art Studio for weekly creative time with Mike Youngblood, who generously shares his talents beyond his role as a Givens Estates chauffeur. During these free two hour sessions, residents receive guidance on individual projects or simply enjoy creating together in a shared, welcoming space. It is a meaningful opportunity for creativity, connection, and community to come together through art.

A simple gesture can mean so much. Independent Living residents spent time crafting handmade stockings that were shared with neighbors in Assisted Living, spreading warmth, kindness, and holiday cheer across our community.

We’re excited to share a wonderful update from our Givens Estates Woodworkers. This year, our team handcrafted and donated approximately 600 wooden toys to the Apple Woodworking Group, which then distributes these toys to 11 partner agencies throughout the community.

One of those partner agencies is ELA Homes. In the photo, you can spot several of our donated toys on their display table, including the small wooden cars made right here on our campus.

You’ll also see Mark, the Toy Project Director for the Apple Woodworking Group, proudly holding a selection of the toys our residents created.

We’re grateful for the generosity, talent, and heart our woodworkers pour into each piece. Their craftsmanship brings joy to children across Western North Carolina.
