I am now an official US Forestry Services certified Sawyer! That means I can be part of chainsaw teams on federal land. It also means I can work with local organizations that maintain the 1,000s of miles of trails in WNC. Some require a certification before they will let anyone use a saw. I’ve been cutting since I was 14 or so and I learned a ton this week. Shout out to my BIL Dave Fuller for teaching me everything I knew up until this week.
I wore a Saugerties Sawyers shirt to class and they loved it! I was born for this, apparently

When I was an undergraduate at SUNY Oswego, I took a Political Science class with the legendary Dr. Funk. Yes that was his name. He was a devout Catholic and regularly attended Mass at the Newman Center. In his class we read about Liberation Theology which is a radical application of Jesus’s teachings to focus on the poor. Hard Right Catholics hated it but. It blew my mind and widened the Populist streak that runs through me. RIP Father Gustavo Gutiérrez, Dominican priest, father of liberation theology and "defender of the poor," who has died at age 96. A towering figure in the life of the church in the modern age. May he rest in peace and may his teachings become reality.

So happy to see places like this opening up. Bonus, I bumped into a fellow Massage Therapist I used to work with who is working here. Take time to recharge if you can. Tomorrow will be another day to help.

This is the beauty right outside my office. The 2nd photo shows where the black bears climb over the wall and drag garbage bags up the hill. The Italian restaurant in my complex dumps here, so the bears are well fed!
