There is reason to believe that our society is in the midst of an empathy crisis. There are countries with educational systems where learning about empathy is part of school curriculum.

In conversations with various professionals, parents and others, it is apparent that the crisis has reached the tipping point. We need to put some focus on mental health for youth now.

A frantic hunt is on for ways to stop kids from hurting. But if we want to make any lasting difference, it is adults who need the intervention.

This can also be one of the hardest. As a parent it can be difficult to just sit with our child’s strong emotions. It is important to model that it is OK to have strong emotions and not to be afraid of them. It helps our brain learn resilience…that we can get through tough times.

I recently had a conversation with my kid about everyone being a little bit of "a mess" from time to time. It reminded me of this song from Frozen. And then I listened to is again and realized that some of the lyrics were really insignful..
