A provision inserted into the 47-page abortion bill, removes the physician supervision requirement. This practice change for North Carolina’s 416 midwives will take effect in October. https://www.northcarolinahealthnews.org/2023/06/05/after-a-decades-long-stalemate-nurse-midwives-can-now-practice-without-physician-supervision/ For Information about what health insurance covers: www.WNCHealthInsurance.com

Once the federal government is no longer purchasing or distributing COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, payment, coverage, and access may change. In order to prepare for that transition, partners across the U.S. Government (USG) are planning for and have been developing plans to ensure a smooth transition for the provision of COVID-19 vaccines and certain treatments as part of the traditional health care market, which will occur in the coming months. https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2023/05/09/fact-sheet-end-of-the-covid-19-public-health-emergency.html For more health insurance information: www.WNCHealthInsurance.com.

Individual COVID-19 cases will no longer be tracked — experts say this data point is no longer accurate, as many positive at-home tests are not reported to health departments. Other metrics like records of COVID-19 deaths and vaccination status will be kept by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This doesn’t mean the state will be worse at tracking COVID trends, Kansagra said. Rather, she said the three selected metrics distill the available information to paint an accurate picture of the virus’ impact. https://www.govtech.com/em/preparedness/heres-what-ncs-changing-covid-response-looks-like https://m.facebook.com/WNCHealthInsurance

Medicare Expansion gives more people access to routine care and preventive services, which are now often delivered in the emergency department. Routine care in a medical home helps treat people before they get sick, so they can get care in settings, other than the emergency department.”

At least 150 million Americans could lose access to free preventive health care. Something Fendrick knows a great deal about. Because he is one of the people who helped create those very provisions that are a signature part of the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act says you don't have to pay for preventative health care. But a federal judge in Texas recently struck that down. And it could change the way 160 million Americans get their care.

If you're part of NC Health Choice or NC Medicaid Managed Care (MMC), you must choose a health plan and a Primary Care Provider (P*P). Your P*P can help you find a behavioral health provider. Depending on your health plan, you can also search the provider directory for the type of health care professional you would like to see. Learn more about the types of providers.

Those whose incomes no longer qualify them for Medicaid, or who are no longer parents or caretakers, could be dropped. So could those who don’t complete re-certification. All told, DHHS expects 300,000 or so people to lose full health care coverage or see a reduction in benefits.

North Carolina is expanding Medicaid to adults who make up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. So that would be about $41,000 for a family of four.

According to data collected in the most recent Census, over 13 percent of Wilmington’s population under 65 years old don’t have health insurance. Across North Carolina, that number changes to over 12 percent. “Think about our childcare workers,” said Tribie. “Just imagine the people who are taking care of our babies as we go off to work every day, many of whom are uninsured. It’s going to make a huge difference for so many individuals and entire communities.”
