☯ THE HEART & ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THE SENSE ORGANS

According to the SU WEN 素問 --the first text known to address basic questions, theoretical foundations and diagnostic methods in traditional oriental medicine-- The five sense organs, referring to the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and tongue, are each paired with specific visceral organs. In particular The HEART, known as 'the emperor', gives residence to SHEN - a level of 'spirit' which activates all mental activities, as well as perceiving the emotional stimulai of all of the organs, and has relationships with the other orifices beyond its own link with the tip of the tongue. The heart is the only organ with the insight to do that.

Eyes and sight are related to liver, but also related to heart. The heart supplies blood & blood vessels supply the eyes. According to the Su Wen, excessive use of the eyes injures the heart. Eyes, in diagnosis, are the most important window of SHEN [spirit that is stored inherently in the heart], and although the eyes are particularly the orfice of the liver, sight is a manifestation of the function of heart.

ARTHRITIS PAIN ☯ Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, infectious, chemically-induced, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and gout are all types of arthritic pain that can be successfully managed, and in many cases, set right using TCM.

When QI & blood aren't freely flowing, they stagnate, causing pain, heat, and other symptoms of imbalance. Acupuncture, herbal therapy & diet can open blockage in meridians and balance and build QI flow, returning harmony. Please Enjoy & Share

☯ It is the thinking of what we want that has gotten out of control. Thinking only leads to more thinking and more questions. The state of being awake is the end of suffering. In stillness, inner energies awaken and work without effort; Qi following consciousness.

By being still, one begins to hear the wisdom of the plants and animals, quiet whispers in dreams, and one learns the subtle mechanisms by which those dreams come into material form.

On Movement • The Tao of nurturing life indicates that one keeps themself as fluid and flexible as possible. One should not stay still for too long, nor should one exhaust resources by trying to perform impossible tasks. One should learn how to exercise from the cues of nature; by observing that flowing water never stagnates, and by the way in which a busy door with active hinges does not readily rot or rust. Why? Because they are moving, perpetually, integrally.

Chinese strategists think like players of ‘Wei Qi’ or ‘Go’, which means that, in the long term, they wish to prevent encirclement. Westerners are chess-players, tacticians aiming to get rid of their opponent in a series of head-on clashes. Chess produces single-mindedness; Wei Qi generates strategic flexibility. -Henry Kissinger

This dynamic encompasses the trajectory of the medicine of each respective mindset. Ultimately, there is no separation in intent, functional application, and outcome.

Gems from a classical Chinese pulse Master, Dr. Zeng Rongxiu, interpreted by Heiner Fruehauf.

Dr. Zeng was the last living disciple of the great Shanghan pulse master, Dr. Tian Heming. During his long career as an internal medicine doctor in Chengdu, he synthesized a highly effective system of constitutional approaches to chronic illness. Some of his students included Heiner Fruehauf, Arnaud Versluys, Liu Lihong, Ed Neal, Bob Quinn, and Bill Frazier.

Liver Qi can become tangled and uproarious with wind and the exuberance abounding in springtime. To roam in gardens and forests, leisurely sitting and absorbing tranquil sights, sounds, and fragrances brings about suppleness and harmoniousness of Liver Qi.
