Less than a month away from National Bike & Roll to School Day. Last year we supported eight awesome schools on this day. Will your school be on the list?

Does biking too school seem like too much this year? We can shift (pun intended) programming to meet you where you are. Maybe that's a walk to school day? Maybe that's a social media educational series? Maybe that's a pop-up bike park? Let's make a plan!

Henderson County, it's the final week of the Historic Johnson Farm Ruby Bridges Storybook exhibit! We extended it a week, with just a little persuasion from this beautiful spring weather and a friendly donkey. Make sure to add a walk around their nature trail in your weekend plans. The last day to visit will be this coming Friday, March 27th.

Last week we hosted a confident road riding class at the Black Mountain library. Here you can see some of our participants mapping out routes to the library. It's important to spend time considering your routes when biking with elementary age kids. What's your favorite kid friendly riding tip?

Do you have weekend plans yet? Perhaps a trip to the Historic Johnson Farm! We are excited to post up the first location of our Ruby Bridges Storybook trail. A Storybook trail is a book displayed along a route, allowing participants to read and move through the story together. "I am Ruby Bridges" is available to the public from dusk to dawn at the farm's quarter mile nature trail for the next two weeks. An added bonus is the beautiful spring flowers and a little donkey sighting.

We finally visited the new Pigeon River Bikes nonprofit in Haywood County this weekend. Proof that big things can come in small packages, the volunteers that run this program are tucked away behind the Folkmoot Center. They are working to teach all things bicycle maintenance to anyone interested. Stop by on a Saturday and see what you can learn.

Announcing our first annual spring art competition! Students in K-5th grade are invited to stretch their creative brain in a friendly competition to display their art on the regional Safe Routes to School flag. The theme for this competition will change every year, and this first year we are focusing on school zone safety. Just print out the template (lossrts.org/workplace) put those brushes to work, and email pictures of the art to be considered. This is open to all students in Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, and Madison Counties. All submissions due April 17th. Winner's design will debut on National Bike to School Day on May 6th.

Our new portable Storybook trail arrived this morning and we are so giddy. This display is an interactive way to explore Ruby Bridges story while moving through 23 different signs. Do you have a location that you would love to see this set up? Give us a shout!

Shout out to the 4 students, their awesome families, and a fantastic coach for showing up for a rainy morning walk to school today. Pisgah Forest has a great route from the local sports park to school that serves as a very safe and fun route.
