Do these April showers make you feel heavy and fatigued in your body?☔️
Damp weather can aggravate the symptoms of water metabolism and fluid imbalance in the body. It involves the systems of the spleen, kidney, and triple burner in Chinese medicine and their ability to metabolize, drain, or harmonize damp accumulation in the body.
🌧️ Our bodies can hold on to excess fluid, contributing to “dampness” in the body. This inability to properly metabolize fluids can lead to fatigue, brain fog, digestive problems, joint pain, or edema in the lower body. When exacerbated by heat it can lead to phlegm (in a physical form think cysts, nodules, weight gain, phlegm in the throat or in the stool, or excess vaginal discharge) (in an energetic form think brain fog, fatigue, difficulty concentrating).
Chinese medicine teaches that acupuncture, moxibustion (heat therapy), and herbs all help to combat dampness. This is done by warming yang to move some of that excess yin fluid, supporting your body in excreting it through urination, and boosting the energetics of the kidney, spleen, and triple burner channels in their metabolism of fluid.
While we can’t control the weather or stop the rain, acupuncture, dietary choices, and herbs can help those of us who tend to hold more dampness in our bodies during this season. ☔️
