Nearly a year has passed since Hurricane Helene impacted the communities in Western Carolina. We've discovered that unity makes us stronger than division. We will all be permanently transformed by this experience. Although we're focused on rebuilding, the emotional scars remain, and that's perfectly alright! Take each minute at a time as we heal.

This week has been the end of an era for Appalachian Counseling and Psychological Services. The building we have lived in for the last 11 years is closing. This last year has been about making big decisions for our future and how we want to best serve our current and future clients. We were formed in 2014 by two friends who shared a single office. Now our company is 40+strong over five locations. We have weathered a global pandemic, catastrophic natural disaster, and more changes in insurance policy and coverage that anyone can count. As as owner, I am very proud of what we have accomplished and the team we have cultivated. I cannot wait to see where the future takes us. Www.apppsych.org.

🌱 Healing Takes Time 🌱

Therapy isn’t a quick fix—it’s a journey. Growth happens in the small, quiet moments of reflection, self-compassion, and courage. It’s okay if you don’t see instant results. Healing is messy, nonlinear, and sometimes feels like two steps forward, one step back.

What matters is showing up for yourself. Every session, every tough conversation, every moment of awareness brings you closer to the peace and wholeness you deserve.

Give yourself grace. Trust the process. You are worth the time it takes to heal. 💚

🌟 Navigating Tough Times Together 🌟

In moments of crisis, communication is key—especially when it comes to our little ones. Here are some tips for helping adults talk to children during challenging times:

Stay Calm: Your demeanor sets the tone. Take a deep breath and approach the conversation with a sense of calm.

Listen First: Let them express their feelings. Ask open-ended questions and give them space to share their thoughts.

Use Simple Language: Kids need clarity. Break down complex topics into simple, age-appropriate explanations.

Be Honest: It’s okay to admit you don’t have all the answers. Honesty builds trust and shows it’s okay to be uncertain.

Encourage Questions: Invite them to ask anything on their mind. Answer honestly, but gently.

Focus on Safety: Reassure them about their safety and the steps being taken to protect them.

Offer Comfort: Physical comfort—a hug, holding hands—can be incredibly reassuring.

Normalize Feelings: Remind them that it’s okay to feel scared, sad, or confused. Everyone has feelings!

Together, we can help our children navigate the stormy seas of uncertainty with love and understanding. 💙✨

Welcome

Sometimes in life, obstacles arise that are difficult to conquer on our own.

As a company made up of psychologists and therapists, we understand how difficult life can be when something isn't working in your life and you can't quite put your finger on the problem. Appalachian Counseling and Psychological Service's sole purpose is to help you find answers.

We provide psychological and neuropsychological testing services that will help you to identify everything from learning disorders to mental health disorders. We will meet with you to provide a personalized assessment before beginning the testing process. Once testing is complete, we will provide comprehensive personal feedback on your results. Our aim is to ensure that you fully understand what the problem is and what resources are available to you in seeking further interventions and treatment.

We also provide mental health therapy services, speech/language assessment and treatment services, and psychiatric medication management services for our established patients. We have a wide variety of therapeutic providers that can engage with you to identify and treat the concerns that you have in your every day functioning. Once you become a patient with Appalachian Counseling and Psychological Services, we will identify a treatment provider who can best suit the needs that you have. We look at their experience, their knowledge, their clinical expertise, as well as their understanding of your particular concern in order to ensure you have the best experience possible while you address the issues that brought you to ACAPS.
