Greenup and Boyd County officials have declared a Local State of Emergency in advance of Winter Storm Fern, which is forecast to impact the area beginning this weekend. Greenup County Judge Executive Bobby Hall signed a formal declaration effective January 24, 2026, citing the threat of freezing rain, sleet, snow, ice, and arctic temperatures that could create dangerous travel conditions and damage infrastructure, utilities, and private property.

In addition, Boyd County Judge Executive Eric Chaney, Ashland Mayor Chuck Charles, and Catlettsburg Mayor Faith Day have each signed written State of Emergency declarations for their respective jurisdictions. These actions ensure that county and city governments can respond quickly and efficiently to the storm.

On Friday, January 23, 2026, Emergency Management met with Public Safety, Public Works, and local government leaders to review preparedness measures, operational plans, and contingency strategies. Officials emphasized that collaboration, communication, and coordination between the county and cities will be critical to ensuring public safety throughout the storm.

Under the declared State of Emergency, county emergency operations plans will be fully activated, allowing emergency responders and agencies to coordinate resources and take necessary actions to protect residents. The public is encouraged to stay informed, use caution when traveling, and follow guidance from local officials as conditions develop.

Our team was thrilled to provide service to this patient in the comfort of his home in Floyd County, Kentucky.
