May is LUPUS awareness month, and it is so important to know about what it is! The last couple of years, I have been pushing harder to get to the bottom of all the health issues I was dealing with. After being brushed off for years, I found a provider who believed me that there was something more serious going on. Because I went over a decade without getting a diagnosis or treatment, I’m facing a pretty steep hill when it comes to treatment and management. I have had 3 knee surgeries, 2 hand surgeries, countless other procedures to help with diagnostics. This journey has taught me patience, to advocate for myself, that community is everything, don’t take good health for granted. I take over 34 medications on a daily basis, just to keep some of the symptoms at bay, manage other health issues, and ensure my body works the way it should. I have been wading into research on anti inflammatory diets and how those are beneficial and live what I am learning. Having gastroparesis adds another complicated layer on top of everything else. But, I constantly remind myself to be thankful for the things I do have. While many people struggle through invisible illnesses/diseases, I have noticed that the blessings are not invisible. I’m so lucky to have an incredible husband who supports me in this journey. He is there for every appointment (unless those appointments require needles) 💉 😂. I feel so grateful that we live in a time where treatment options have evolved and I have access to so many knowledgeable specialists!
