The Denbow Funeral Home has been serving Ashland County since 1841 when it was founded by James and Nils Shaw in Savannah. Both gentlemen became licensed, although Nils perused other interest in pharmacy. It wasn’t until 1912, that Shaw purchased the home of Randolph Freer at 313 Center Street, the funeral homes current location. At that time, it had become the first “funeral home” in Ashland County to hold services at the actual funeral home, as that compared to previous years where funeral services occurred in the homes of the deceased. Harry W. Denbow took over the business his step-father had started and operated for fifty years, for a time in partnership with Richard W. Bear. In June of 1965, J. Roger Primm joined Harry in business changing the name later to Denbow-Primm. In 1976, Edwin Kemery joined Harry and Roger at the funeral home and serves as Vice-President of Operations. Roger retired in June of 2013 after more than 48 years of dedication to the company. At the time of his retirement, Roger sold the company to employee, Seth R. Gasche and his wife, Lindsey. The company was renamed the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home to meet the state requirment in June of 2015. They continue to own and operate the funeral home under the philosophy to build upon the legacy it has earned and upheld for so many years ago. For more information, please contact us.
