An integral part of my practice of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is counseling patients regarding the best food choices to support their health. My training included Western Nutrition, Biochemistry, and Chinese Nutrition -- which is focused on using the five flavors and five colors, along with eating according to season, according to locality, and according to lifestyle to create a balanced diet suitable for the individual and suitable for the climate, activity level, and physical needs of a community. The concepts of Chinese Medicine diet can be applied to any kind of cuisine from anywhere in the world. By using these concepts, cooking from scratch can be demystified, reliance upon processed foods laden with chemicals, herbicides and pesticides can be foregone, and anyone can learn to be the master of their own kitchen and contribute to their continued health with the basic building block of food -- and create community with others while doing so!
