"These guidelines emerge at a moment of growing bipartisan recognition that chronic disease is not a personal failure but a systemic one. For decades, federal policy incentivized cheap calories over nutrient density, treatment over prevention, and pharmaceutical management over food-based solutions.

Correcting course will require more than better advice. It will require aligning nutrition research, agricultural subsidies, food labeling laws, school lunch programs, food marketing, and healthcare reimbursement with nutritional reality. The guidelines are a necessary first step—but not a sufficient one.

The next generation of guidelines must go further—toward nuance and personalization, as well as toward significant federal funding of nutrition research to advance science.

But for the first time in decades, that future feels possible."
-Dr. Mark Hyman M.D.

For decades, federal dietary policy fomented chronic obesity and illness. Now, it’s acknowledged a basic reality: What we eat matters more than how many calories we count, writes Dr. Mark Hyman.

“The data is powerful,” says Dr. Michelle Loy, an integrative health specialist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. “Increasing exposure to green spaces is associated with significant physical, emotional, and cognitive health benefits. What other ‘pill’ does all this and without side effects?”

An integrative medicine specialist explains the physical and mental benefits of forest bathing and how to get them — even if you live in a city.

A friend sent me this link today. She knows me well and how appreciative I am for the current move toward Green Burial.
Did you know that many cemeteries now offer green burial as an option? All you need to do is ask. Green burial is not only limited to "Conservation Cemeteries". I find it so interesting that this article mentions Green Burials incorporating many of the burial practices that have been part of Jewish burial tradition for millennium- no grave liner; no embalming; burial in a simple shroud (there is also no body viewing). The goal is to return back to The Earth in a timely manner. During each burial, following prayers and personal sharing, the community of mourners share in the ritual of shoveling earth into the grave of their loved one.

More Americans are choosing burials in which everything is biodegradable.

Life is extremely full as my husband and I harvest, glean, ferment, cook and bake. This week it's more lacto-fermented pickles using pickling cukes and lemon cukes. Tomorrow we're making about 20 pounds of Santa Rosa Plums into plum marinara. In our fermenting chamber we currently have buckwheat groats sprouting for a batch of sprouted sourdough buckwheat bread. So exciting!

I am more than grateful for this sustenance, nourishment and abundance and goodness.

Here's a link to the pickle recipe from a blog post updated last year. More recipe links coming soon.

What a beautiful forest therapy walk we had yesterday with the intention of walking with awareness, clarity, strength and wonder into Rosh Hashanah, 5785. I am so grateful for my tribe and so grateful for my relationship with the more than human world and especially sharing it with others during sacred thresholds.

Our Story

Welcome to Wild Wellness Guide. I am Sari Telpner, a Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, Whole Health Educator™ and Reiki Healer and Teacher. My offerings focuses on whole person wellness. A central part of my practice is my work as a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide. I guide groups and individuals on nature immersion walks, also known as “Forest Bathing, Forest Therapy or Shinrin Yoku.” This is a potent wellness practice for stress reduction, mood elevation, immune support and cardiovascular health. Forest bathing offers a beautiful and profound way to unplug, release, slow-down and connect to the natural world, oneself and others in a very unique way. http://www.natureandforesttherapy.org/

As a Whole Health Educator™ I facilitate and teach techniques for stress regulation, often referred to as, “Body Hacks.” These practices include breathwork, gratitude practice, mind-body techniques, practices for vagus nerve stimulation, embodiment practices to ground and center and guided nature immersion also known as Forest Therapy. These offerings help to calm the sympathetic nervous system, support mood and discover one’s full picture of wellness. As well as work with stress regulation, I educate my clients about The Five aspects of Health, Physical, Emotional, Nutritional, Environmental and Spiritual. I offer Reiki energy healing sessions in my practice as a Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master and teacher. This work offers blissful relaxation as it deeply calms the sympathetic nervous system. Reiki is very supportive for pain, sleep, anxiety and a very helpful complementary therapy for those dealing with cancer and chemotherapy. *Whole Health Educator ™ * “Whole Health Education is a registered trademark of the National Institute of Whole Health.” http://www.wholehealtheducation.com/
