Please be prepared for this weekend as we may have ice on the roadways! If you or a loved one has oxygen please come in this week and get a back up oxygen cylinder in case your power goes out! If the roads are icy we will not be able to make it to you so don’t wait. Stay safe and stay warm!!
⚠️ 6:15 PM MONDAY WINTER STORM UPDATE
A significant winter storm is set to impact a large part of the South from Friday through Sunday.
Right now, models are the only view we have of this setup, and while they have some similarities, there are still GLARING differences. Here is what the midday GFS and Euro models are telling us as of Monday evening:
❄️ THE RECAP
The current "story" suggests Tennessee sees more snow while Alabama sees more ice, with a messy transition happening over the Tennessee Valley.
NOTE: The bands on my hand-drawn map do NOT include amounts. This is strictly precipitation type—a blend of the models that doesn't tell the whole story yet.
⭕️ THE DETAILS
WHEN? Starting as early as Friday night in NW Alabama, lasting through Sunday morning, and tapering off Sunday night. The models are still "fighting" over the exact timing, so this isn't set in stone.
IMPACTS? This is where models are rat poison. They give us specifics one run and pull the rug out the next. For now, the greatest threat of a "shut-down" storm looks to be from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Anniston northward, and near/east of US 280 from Birmingham to Lee County.
IS ANYONE EXCLUDED? No. This is just Monday’s best guess based on the data we have.
⭕️ WHY THE UNCERTAINTY?
Because it’s the future. We’ve never been there before. We are forecasting, and my goal is to narrow this down for you without "yanking the lines" around too much and causing unnecessary confusion.
⭕️ NOW IS THE TIME...
Start thinking about your plan. What would you do if roads were impassable for 2–3+ days?
CHECK IN: Who do you need to check on to ensure they’re safe?
POWER: What if you’re without power for a day or two?
PREP: If we "blow it" and it's just a cold rain, you’ve lost nothing by being prepared. If the worst ends up over you, you’ll be glad you stayed ahead of it.
