Very deserving! So excited for McKenzie!!
Congratulations to nurse McKenzie Newman, BSN, RN, who was recently selected to participate in UK King's Daughters inaugural Nurse Leader in Training program.
Newman, a member of the Infusion Center team, has served as charge nurse/lead; assisted with unit meetings and huddles; led unit-based projects; and has served as preceptor for new team members and a mentor for fellowship participants.
“Nursing is my passion and my calling,” Newman said. “Being a nurse is more than just an occupation, but an opportunity to make a positive difference in this world. … I love nursing and want to encourage and inspire other nurses to love nursing too.”
In recommending Newman for the NLIT program, manager Nikki Layne noted that Newman demonstrates the highest principles of nursing and is “dedicated to doing what is right for the patient and always puts their needs first.
“I know McKenzie has the dedication, determination and desire to achieve her goals. She has displayed her leadership abilities on the basketball court as a collegiate athlete and I feel she will one day make a great leader at UK King’s Daughters.”
The Nursing Leader in Training program is designed to provide aspiring nurse leaders the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities essential to professional and career advancement. NLIT program goals include nurturing leadership skills and furthering professional, evidence-based practice of nursing.
The three NLIT participants will be supported as they identify career goals, personal strengths, and opportunities for improvement and create individual development plans. The NLIT program will integrate mentorship and experiential learning opportunities to aid in the development of skills in short-term and strategic planning, human and resource management, and issues affecting professional practice and the nursing environment at UK King’s Daughters.
The capstone of the program will be leading a change process, quality performance initiative, or other project.
