Rural Hospital Investment Tax Credit – What You Need to Know
Alabama has passed a new law that allows taxpayers to prepay a portion of their 2026 Alabama state income taxes and direct those funds to their local rural hospital—including Clay County Rural Emergency Hospital.
If you expect to owe Alabama state taxes for 2026 (payable in April 2027), you may choose to make a payment now to support our hospital. In return, you receive a dollar-for-dollar credit against your 2026 Alabama state tax liability.
Funds received through this program may be used directly for patient care, equipment, and capital improvements, helping strengthen healthcare services for our community.
⚠️ Important:
The total amount of tax credits available statewide is limited, and hospitals are competing for these funds. Early participation is strongly encouraged.
• Clay County Rural Emergency Hospital is competing with 45 other rural hospitals statewide
• Only $20 million total has been allocated for this program
• Funds are not divided evenly—each hospital receives support based on how much local taxpayers pledge
• Once the $20 million cap is reached, the program closes
