Labor is not a constant effort. It comes in waves, and sometimes the best thing you can do is rest between them. Lying down, closing your eyes, or simply being still helps your body conserve energy. Some laborers have natural pauses where things slow down. These moments are not setbacks. They are part of the process. At Ashland Birth Center, we protect your right to rest. When you listen to your body and take breaks when needed, you often find the strength to keep going when it counts.

Welcome to the March babies born at the Ashland Birth Center! They were all girls!! Four of the six mom's had water-births. Four moms had their previous babies with us and two new families experienced our care. One mom drove over two hours to have her second baby with us and another drove ten minutes to have her sixth. Both of the babies born on the 4th were the 4th baby to be born in their family. Different journeys, similar strength, and six beautiful new babies—our hearts are full. Welcome, little ones!

Most labors have a moment where things feel overwhelming. You might doubt yourself or wonder how much longer you can keep going. That moment often means you are close. At Ashland Birth Center, we recognize those shifts. We respond by staying steady, encouraging position changes, offering comfort, and reminding you that what you are feeling is normal. You do not need to push past it alone. You are already doing the hardest part, and you are closer than you think.

Support does not always look like doing something. Often, it is about presence. A support person might sit nearby, hold your hand, remind you to breathe, or simply stay calm while you find your focus. At Ashland Birth Center, we help partners, friends, and family feel confident in their role. You do not need grand gestures. What matters is being steady and available. Quiet support allows you to lead, while knowing you are never alone.

It is easy to compare your labor to someone else’s or to an idea of how it was “supposed” to go. The truth is, every labor is different. Some are quick and intense. Others are long and full of pauses.. At Ashland Birth Center, we do not measure your experience against a standard. We stay close, adjust with you, and offer care that meets you where you are. Labor is not about getting it right. It is about trusting the process and finding your strength along the way.

In February, we were able to welcome two baby boys at the birth center. They both went past their estimated due date, one went a full 42 weeks and the other six days after. One of the moms experienced her first out of hospital birth, with midwives. The other birthed her baby in the same room as her previous baby. We were blessed to experience three generations in the birth room, a mom providing comfort to her daughter. The waiting and wondering when these little ones would be born is done and the precious postpartum time is here. Welcome baby's and congratulations to your families!

Positioning can have a major impact on how your labor feels and how it progresses. Certain movements and positions help open the pelvis, encourage your baby to rotate, and ease pressure. You might try a birth ball, deep lunges, sitting on the toilet, or hands-and-knees. These shifts allow space to form and guide your baby downward. You do not need to follow a script. You just need to move in the ways your body is asking for. We are here to offer suggestions, but you are always the one in charge.
