Pershing W. Markle Sr.
Pershing W. Markle, Sr. of Berwick, PA passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025 peacefully in his sleep at the age of 83.
He was preceded in death by his wife Linda (Lubold) Markle, his parents Pershing and Elizabeth (Wagner) Markle of Mount Carmel, PA, and a sister, Deloris (Markle) Carlson of Reading, PA. Surviving immediate family members include a sister, Bette Ann (Markle) Joyce of Ashland, PA, his son and daughter-in-law Pershing W. Markle, Jr. and Christina (Hoffman) Markle of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Lisa Markle of Berwick, PA, and two grandsons, Austin Markle of Berwick, PA, and Alec Markle of Hampton, VA.
Pershing was born in Mount Carmel, PA, a graduate of Mount Carmel High School, and was a member of Cedar Lodge #378 Free and Accepted Masons. He moved his family to Berwick, PA for his employment at Wise Potato Chip Company (Wise Foods). He and his wife were both members of Calvary United Methodist Church in Berwick. Later in life he attended services at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg, PA. Pershing was also a member of the U.S. Army’s elite 6th Special Forces Group (Airborne) who served and trained at Fort Bragg, NC and multiple cold weather training sites across Alaska. Pershing very much enjoyed travel and the outdoors with his family. He was a devoted son who visited his mother each and every week throughout his life. Pershing will be greatly missed as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and generous and kind friend to many.
Pershing was laid to rest in the Mount Carmel Cemetery on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, PA.
