What if we told women the truth about birth?

We’d have to tell them that contractions will probably be more than “surges” or “sensations.”

That they’ll probably rock your world and leave you begging for salvation as you clutch the edge of the tub or the hospital linens.

That your gentle breathing exercises and your Spotify soundtrack will be left in the dust as you sweat and pant and sway and swear your way through it

That you’ll trip harder than any mushroom you ever did in college and vomit with the same ferocity and travel to places deep within yourself that you didn’t know existed.

That you’ll float above your body and simultaneously be trapped in it with an intensity you’ve never tasted.

And in that intensity,
in the sweating and the swearing
and the swaying and the vomiting
and the endless hours of contractions crashing down upon you ...

You’ll find your strength.
You’ll find a resilience you’ve never known.
You’ll find the power you need for the journey of Motherhood ahead.

In the messy humanity of it all,
you’ll find that you are holy.
A portal to the divine.
Capable of indescribable miracles.
A vessel of sacred life.

What if we told women the truth about birth?
We’d have to tell them they are capable of anything.

Worthy of being treated like goddesses.
Made to walk through the flames,
surf the tidal waves,
dive into the underworld
And come out alive.

Not unscathed.
Not unchanged.
But whole
and healed
and ready to take on the world.

If we told women the truth about birth,
we’d have to admit that we’ve lied about everything else,
and that they are more powerful,
more fierce,
more capable,
more beautiful,
than we’ve ever let on.

If we told the truth about birth?
We’d shatter the world.

Birth is as safe as life gets. ~ Harriet Harrigan

I just saw a post blaming women who choose to give birth at home in their own way. I mean, maybe without some testing here or there. In the specific post she blamed women who choose to give birth without ultrasound 😱😱 and midwives who are "willing to accept" such a responsibility.
So here is my response

Every woman and her *right* to give birth how, with whom, and where she wants. Either you support this merit, or you don't.

Regarding the specific claim about ultrasound:
Did you know that ultrasound has never been proven safe for the developing fetus?
That it was actually proven *bread to change and kill cells*? (They use it to kill cancer.. )
Or that according to studies *there is no difference* in the results (mortality) of a fetus if an ultrasound was performed or not?
Or the high percentage of errors and misdiagnosis?

But all that doesn't matter, because as long as a woman chooses what *you* don't want for yourself, it probably has no place in your feminism.

And when did the responsibility become that of the midwife, and not of the woman giving birth? Since when did the birth become a minor who knows nothing, unable to choose which risks she is prepared for (after all, there are risks for *every* choice)?
Since when did the responsibility of someone's life become something someone can "take"? I know about myself, and the women I accompany, that this is a big lie spread in modern medicine, by godless 'saviors'.

nothing "makes a home birth safe". A home birth is fundamentally safe. This is our heritage, it's written in our DNA, this is our tradition and our biological observation. With out anything else. If someone wants and feels more comfortable about other things and other people with her, she has full right. Home birth is the basis of life. No human or device or test makes a safe birth. She's the safest possible in this life.

Some facts about nuchal cords:

🔆 Nuchal cords are incredibly common, occurring in an estimated 1 of 3 births.

🔆 They are very rarely dangerous.

🔆 Fetuses receive oxygen through the umbilical cord, not by breathing through the mouth or nose, so a cord around the neck is not cutting off their air like it would for you or me. If the cord is left in tact, the baby can still be receiving oxygen from the placenta for several minutes after birth.

🔆 Most babies with a nuchal cord have one that is very loose and it can be simply slipped over the head after birth. There is usually no indication of the nuchal cord at all.

🔆 The main way for a nuchal cord to be harmful (if the cord is healthy) is if it is wrapped multiple times and is so tight that it compresses itself, thereby decreasing blood flow inside, or if there is a true knot so tight that it does the same (rare). The cord would have to be extremely tight to cut off blood flow between the body and brain.

🔆 Nuchal cord is very difficult to identify before birth, even with ultrasound.

🔆 You do not need to have a c-section solely due to a suspected nuchal cord.

🔆 Medications given during a birth induction/augmentation can cause erratic & extra strong contractions, causing heart decelerations in the fetus. If a c-section is performed and a nuchal cord is discovered, it is frequently blamed (though the cause was more likely the induction meds). This can lead the mother to feel her baby was "saved" by the hospital staff, when they may have actually been the ones to CAUSE the issues the baby was "saved" from.

🔆 A healthy umbilical cord is filled with a gelatinous substance called Wharton's Jelly that protects the cord vessels as a fetus twists and turns its way inside the uterus.

Love this. Always my advice has been to make sure water is warm. I have seen cool
