Boots and footbeds connect your foot to the ski, and ultimately to the snow. A simple over-the-counter orthotic with an arch can go a long way to take up room in your boot, improve your foot's contact with the boot for better control, and improve your skiing mechanics.

You have many options for knee braces while skiing. For general protection of your knee ligaments, there is little research that supports the use of knee braces in any sport. However, unloader braces are a specialized type of brace that can provide a lot of pain relief for an arthritic knee. Finally, if you're looking for a little feeling of support or swelling reduction, a simple elastic knee sleeve can help!

Flying lunges are one of our favorites. It's a great progression of regular lunges strengthebning the entire leg. Adding the jump to it is getting close to a single leg jump and great for building agility. If you remember from our posts presenting the research on preventing ski injuries, agility is one of the important training aspects to avoid ski injuries.

This exercise is an advanced exercise and you should only do it if you feel safe doing so. However, if you can do it, EMG studies have shown it to be a superior exercise in recruiting the deepest layer of your core that offer the most protection for your low back.

Nordic Hamstring Curls are brutal! We really should have been able to go lower to the floor than we did in the video, but let's be honest, we weren't trained up for it. Work your hamstrings and glutes for skiing and before building up to this exercise. If you can progress to doing this exercise well, it is one of the best ones you can do to avoid hamstring injuries and help resist ACL tears. ...it looks like we have some room for improvement in ourselves this ski season!
