During a heatwave, prioritize staying cool and hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses. Tips include staying indoors in air-conditioned spaces, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and drinking plenty of fluids. It’s also crucial to limit strenuous activities, especially during peak heat hours, and to check on vulnerable individuals like the elderly and young children.
Staying Cool:
❄️ Seek Air Conditioning: Spend time in air-conditioned places like libraries, malls, or community centers.
🍹 Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and other fluids, even if you don’t feel thirsty, to avoid dehydration, according to the American Red Cross.
☀️ Limit Outdoor Activity: Avoid strenuous activities, especially during the hottest part of the day (typically between 11 am and 3 pm).
👚 Wear Light Clothing: Choose loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothing to help reflect heat.
🚿 Cool Showers/Baths: Take cool showers or baths to help regulate your body temperature.
🌬️ Use Fans/Cooling Devices: Utilize fans, and if available, air conditioning or portable coolers.
🪟 Close Curtains/Blinds: Close curtains and blinds during the day to keep the sun from heating up your home.
💦 Staying Hydrated:
Drink Regularly: Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. Aim to sip water throughout the day.
☕️ Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine: These can dehydrate you.
🧂 Replace Electrolytes: If you’re sweating a lot, consider sports drinks or snacks to replenish lost electrolytes.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Checking on Others:
Vulnerable Individuals:
👵🏻 👴🏾 Check on the elderly, young children, and those with chronic health conditions who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
🐱 🐶 Pets: Ensure pets have access to cool water and shade, and avoid walking them on hot pavement.
Stay Safe!

Acetaminophen is a popular over the counter medication. It works wonders when used appropriately but can be dangerously when used incorrectly.
Taking too much acetaminophen can cause liver damage, sometimes serious enough to require liver transplantation or cause death. You might accidentally take too much acetaminophen if you do not follow the directions on the prescription or package label carefully, or if you take more than one product that contains acetaminophen.

Most people think of diet, exercise, and sleep when it comes to living a long, healthy life. But there’s another factor that’s just as powerful—and it’s often overlooked.
A meta-analysis published in PLOS Medicine analyzed data from 148 studies involving over 300,000 participants and found that people with strong social relationships had a 50% increased likelihood of survival compared to those with weaker social ties.
And when researchers looked at more complex measures of social integration—like belonging to multiple groups, having frequent interactions, and feeling deeply connected—that number jumped to 91%.
(Holt-Lunstad et al., PLoS Med. 2010;7(7):e1000316)
That’s a stronger predictor of mortality than obesity, physical inactivity, and even some smoking metrics!
