Race ready.
Sort of.
5 years ago I had this dialed in. I knew how to train, what to eat, what my pace would be, how to recover.
But 3 kids and a Celiac diagnosis later and it's all so unfamiliar to me. My body still feels foreign. I'm running half the distance I used to, and it's harder. It's a challenge for my self esteem.

And

I'm grateful for those 3 babies, for the support of my husband and family, for physical therapy, for the trust in my body that I've learned through birth work, the opportunity to run for pleasure and not from bombs...

Carrying so much in my heart as I run today.

Two beautiful boys. Rambunctious and sweet and creative and curious. Who've taught us so much about how to be good parents, better people, more loving and more appreciative of the world around us. And the two best brothers their sister could ever have.

Some days I feel like I'm walking on a cloud. Some days all I can do is marvel at my fortune- to be a doula and a student midwife and a wife and mother x3.
And some days...
I wonder how I'm going to make it through the day, let alone several years of school 🤣
Please enjoy my postpartum baby hairs, my baby-didnt-sleep eye bags, and the system shock at how dense Varney's Midwifery is 😳
But for real, I am learning so much and I LOVE IT

Recently I saw a post on Facebook from a newly expecting mom. She was asking seasoned moms in the group to share what she needed to be ready for this baby. It really got me thinking about what I would recommend, having done it 3 times and working in the birth and postpartum space. And so amid all the registry tips and product referrals, this is what I would say.

The one thing I can promise you about birth is that it will change you.
You will travel to your very limits and return a new person. Your routines, your opinions, your priorities, your relationships, your sleep, your focus.. you just change. With that change you have the opportunity to become an even more radiant version of yourself than you were before. What an opportunity that is!
