While seemingly kind, chronic people pleasing can lead to significant negative consequences, including burnout, resentment, and a loss of self-identity.

Sitting in the discomfort of disappointing people, disagreeing with someone, or taking care of our needs can feel uncomfortable at first, but as you practice asserting your needs it becomes easier each time. Practicing affirmations is a way to build confidence in yourself as you are working on this.

Glimmers are tiny, internal or external cues that foster feelings of well-being.

For example: A stranger smiling, the sound of birdsong, the smell of rain, a warm cup of tea, or seeing a beautiful sunset.

The purpose is to assist in recovery from daily stressors and help shift the body from a state of stress to a state of calm.

To notice them, start a “glimmer journal,” set an intention to spot one per day, or practice mindfulness to recognize moments of joy.

It's possible for two emotions to coexist. You may experience guilt about feeling joy during the holidays when you're grieving what once was or what you thought it would be.

Release the need to fit into certain emotional boxes and let whatever arises be, remembering that joy and pain can exist at the same time.
