Hip pain, outer thigh tightness, or discomfort when walking and squatting often starts with how the femur moves in the hip socket.
When the tensor fasciae latae (TFL) becomes overactive, it can contribute to internal rotation of the femur, increasing strain on the lateral hip, thigh, and even the knee. In this video, I demonstrate an active release technique that combines soft-tissue engagement with client movement to help reduce tension, improve hip mechanics, and support more comfortable movement.
This video is part of an educational series: • Lower Cross Syndrome – Part 18

Massage therapists: this is a valuable pattern to assess when clients present with lateral hip pain, hip hike, or recurring tension patterns.
If hip pain keeps coming back, this may be part of the reason why.
