Welcome Abby Gentry, FNP-C, to Amberwell Atchison!
Abby believes that good care starts with real connection. Throughout her career, she has maintained that listening and building trust is essential with every patient.
Abby’s clinical experiences helped shape the kind of provider she strives to be. She was drawn to rural healthcare because of the variety it offers and the stronger continuity it allows. “I’m excited to be the go-to person for someone. ”
“I want to help, advocate, and point my patients in the right direction without referring them somewhere else first,” she said.
She and her husband, a veterinarian, moved to Atchison when he accepted a position at Atchison Animal Clinic. Together, they found a welcoming town and a community that felt like the right place to call home.
Abby’s path to healthcare was driven by a desire to work directly with people in a meaningful way. She is especially passionate about patient education and making sure people understand their care. She values clear communication and is always ready to speak up for her patients when they need support.
Abby’s years as a bedside nurse prior to becoming a primary care provider solidified her belief that strong relationships are at the heart of good care. “A visit with me won’t feel sterile or formal. I’ll want to hear about your kids, your mom, and where you grew up,” she said. Her goal is to create an environment where patients feel at ease and confident in their care.
Abby values the personalization of each visit. She cares about what matters most to each patient and wants the care she provides to reflect individual needs and preferences. She also enjoys providing care for women at all stages of life and is passionate about making sure women feel supported when it comes to their health.
“My style is very informal. It’ll feel more like talking to a friend,” she said.
Outside of work, Abby enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband. They like to kayak, fish, and hunt when they have time off together. Their home includes three cats, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Sammie, and a three-legged rescue dog named Leo.
She has a background in coaching youth softball and enjoys connecting with people of all ages, especially children and older adults. Whether through coaching, volunteering, or informal community involvement, Abby is committed to building strong local ties and staying engaged in the community she calls home.
