Please go support Athens Alehouse and Cellar for the month of December! It always breaks our hearts to hear another small business going out. We wish you the best in all future endeavors! ❤️
A Fare Thee Well…
Alehouse fam, this will be our last month in business. This was the most difficult decision we have ever made. We love the Alehouse and everything we created for our community. We brought Saint Patrick's Day, Athtoberfest, stand-up comedy, music bingo, local musicians, bike nights, and so many street events—zumba, pickleball, jiu-jitsu, locally produced horror movie screenings—plus collaborations with other local businesses: candles, hats, paintings…the list goes on.
Our goal was to have a cozy spot where everyone was welcome, and everyone truly became family. No screens, just people coming together over board games, conversations, and maybe a wine tasting, a slushy, or a couple of beers. From newborn babies to 80th birthday parties, we were the spot. The place in Athens to grab a quiet corner for date night or to hang with friends, old or new. A place where your kids were safe to play and color the sidewalks while you enjoyed yourself. We loved every minute. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. It truly has meant the world to our entire family.
Now everyone is asking… Why would you close? Being a small business owner is not easy. In fact, it’s extremely hard. All the licenses, all the fees, all the taxes, all the insurance, the expenses never stop. I can tell you small business owners aren’t here to make money. They exist to put a smile on your face, to be something great for the community. They do it because they believe in something special. Support these people and their families.
The fact of the matter is we just don’t have the support to continue. The bar is great. Adding a restaurant was needed, but it didn’t bring in the community the way we hoped. We are bar people, not restaurant people. So now we pivot and hope to fill this space with a new tenant who brings something even better to our hometown. We will be around and are very much looking forward to putting all of our energy into our four amazing kiddos.
To clarify: the kitchen will close immediately, but the bar and December events are still on! Outside food is welcome, and we will make apps while supplies last. Final day will be December 27th. That night we will have a special comedy roast of Ken. Bring your best! Come see us, and let’s make a few more memories together!
P.S. If anyone is looking to lease, please reach out. It's a great spot!
Peace out, Alehouse fam!
Cheers,
Ken and Lori 🍻
