Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home 🔋

This year’s Fire Prevention Week™ (FPW™) campaign runs October 5–11 and focuses on keeping you and your family safe from lithium-ion battery fires.

These powerful batteries store a lot of energy in a small space — but if overcharged or damaged, they can overheat, catch fire, or even explode.

By learning how to BUY, CHARGE, and RECYCLE lithium-ion batteries safely, you can help prevent a fire in your home.

👉 Check back each day this week for tips, resources, and safety reminders!

To all the new and expecting moms and dads, congratulations! You’re going to be amazing parents, and we’ll be right here with you so you’re not alone.

This Baby Safety Month, one of the most important steps you can take is making sure your car seat is installed correctly. Using a properly installed car seat is the best way to keep your child safe in the car, and our Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians are here to help you at our car seat check events.

Remember: your baby should ride rear-facing as long as possible. Infants and toddlers have larger heads and more delicate necks and spines, which makes them especially vulnerable in a crash. A rear-facing car seat provides the best protection, keeping your child’s head, neck, and spine supported.

Back-to-school season has arrived! (It felt fast to us, too.) If your kids are walking to school this year, please take a few minutes to cover some tips on how to stay safe.

🚶It sounds elemental, but remind kids to always look left, right, and left again before crossing the street, and keep looking until they’re safely on the other side.

📵Teach kids to put phones, headphones, and devices down while crossing the street; it’s especially important to reinforce this message with teenagers.

🚸Use sidewalks or paths whenever possible and cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.

⬅️If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as you can.

🛑Kids younger than 10 should cross the street with an adult if at all possible. Most kids can’t judge the speed and distance of oncoming cars until that age.

Kids move from elementary to middle to high school only when they’re ready. Car seats work the same way! Children go from rear-facing to forward-facing to booster seats before using a seat belt alone.

Yet, our study found that 4 out of 5 parents move children out of booster seats before they are ready. Keep your child in their current seat until they reach the maximum weight or height limit listed on the label.
