🐾 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆! Meet this brave 𝟴-𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸-𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 puppy who recently came to us feeling very lethargic. 💔 When puppies suddenly lose energy or don’t act like themselves, it can be a sign that something serious is going on.

After taking 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘀 (𝗫-𝗿𝗮𝘆𝘀), our team confirmed the presence of a 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆, a small object this curious pup had swallowed and was blocking the intestines. 🦴❌ Because foreign body obstructions can quickly become life-threatening, surgery was the best option.

Our veterinarians performed an 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘆, carefully removing the object and allowing this little one to begin the road to recovery. 💙 After surgery and stabilization, the puppy was safely transferred to their primary care veterinarian for continued monitoring and follow-up care.

💡 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:

Stephanie’s passion for animal care began in 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱, when she started trapping, spaying/neutering, and returning cats in her community. That hands-on experience sparked her love for veterinary medicine and led her to begin her career as a 𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁. Through hard work, dedication, and a true heart for animals, Stephanie quickly advanced into her current role as a 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁.

Her love for animals doesn’t stop at the hospital as Stephanie is also a devoted pet parent to 𝟯 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟰 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀, along with her very patient husband. 🐶🐱❤️

Stephanie is currently working toward her 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲, continuing to grow her skills and knowledge so she can provide the highest level of care to every patient she meets. ❄️ 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀, but a little preparation can go a long way in keeping them safe and healthy this winter! Here are some important tips to help prevent winter-related emergencies:

🐶 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 – Even pets with fur can get too cold. Keep outdoor time short and bring pets inside when temperatures drop.
🐾 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘄𝘀 – Ice, salt, and deicers can irritate paw pads and cause chemical burns. Wipe paws after walks and use pet-safe ice melt when possible.

🐾🩺 Behind the Scenes at Madison Veterinary Emergency: A Life-Saving Delivery! Recently, our team treated a 3-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who came in experiencing dystocia, a difficult and dangerous labor that can quickly become life-threatening for both mom and puppies. This situation required an emergency C-section, and our team jumped into action. 🚨🐶

After surgery, our veterinary technician Regan provided “flow-by” oxygen to the newborn puppies, a critical step in helping neonates transition to breathing on their own after delivery. 💙🐾 Flow-by oxygen gently delivers oxygen near the puppies’ faces, supporting their lungs during those crucial first moments of life.

🐶 Why Emergency C-Sections Matter
Dystocia can be caused by:
• Puppies that are too large
• Abnormal positioning
• Uterine exhaustion
• Breed predispositions (especially small breeds like Yorkies)

Without prompt intervention, dystocia can lead to oxygen deprivation, infection, or loss of both puppies and mom. Emergency surgery and immediate neonatal care can make all the difference.

💙 The Best Outcome
We’re happy to share that mom and all puppies recovered beautifully and were discharged the next morning, healthy and thriving. Moments like these highlight the importance of having a skilled emergency team and advanced care available when every minute counts.
