Movement Monday: Patella Mobilization ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
Does the front of your knee ever feel tight, click, or just โ€œoffโ€ when you squat, run, or go down stairs?
Todayโ€™s Movement Monday drillโ€”a simple patella (kneecap) glideโ€”helps keep the kneecap moving freely so your whole knee tracks the way it should.
Why it matters
When the patella gets sticky, the cartilage underneath takes the hit. Gentle mobilization improves circulation, reduces irritation, and restores smooth tracking so every lunge, jump, and stride feels better.
How to do it (video below):
Sit with your leg straight and thigh muscles relaxed.
Using the pads of your thumbs and index fingers, glide the kneecap side-to-side โ€” then up-and-downโ€”keeping pressure light (think โ€œcoin sliding under the skin,โ€ not pushing into the joint).
30-60 seconds each direction, 2-3 rounds. Breathe and keep the quad loose.
Pro-tip: If it feels sore, back off the pressure. Consistency beats intensity. Do it daily before workouts or anytime your knees need a quick reset.
