I keep hearing the same weary questions:
“When do we finally get to rest?” or
“When is the universe going to throw some 'good' my way?”
The hard truth is this: there is no destination in life where things suddenly stay calm, peaceful, and beautiful. We rarely get peace in large chunks of months or years. Instead, we get it in moments—little, fleeting seconds that pass us by if we aren't paying attention.
To find them, you have to be stubborn. You have to be diligent.
Peace is often hidden under the sound of kids fighting (again). It’s tucked between mountains of schoolwork and the stress of the dinner rush. It’s buried behind endless housework and everyday conflict.
We were never meant to carry the burdens of the entire world. We’ve "zoomed out" so far that we’ve taken on global problems at the expense of our local reality. In doing so, we miss the 30 seconds of whimsy in a butterfly’s dance.
We miss the 5 minutes of unconditional love when a child explains a "new discovery" in painful detail while emails go unanswered. We miss the nervous system recalibration that comes from sixty seconds of intentional breathing.
The spacious feeling we’re all waiting to "stumble upon" isn't found; it's built. Creating a habit of collecting these moments, choosing them over and over again, creates the internal space that allows us to feel free—even under the heavy load of our existence.
Only then can we show up as our best selves for our families. Only then can we show up for our community. Only then can we make a tiny impact on the mess of the world—not through force and conflict, but through peace, patience, and leading by example.
