In my experience, acknowledging simple principles about the neurophysiology of trauma such as this can do a lot to reduce internalized shame, and enhance the capacity for self-compassion and healing.

"It’s the struggle faced having an ‘invisible’ disability - one that impacts a person's life but can not be easily seen or understood by the public and sometimes even by friends and family.

Invisible illness or disability affects millions of people. Many of them have been told "but you don't look sick".

A NSW campaign launched last December called encouraged people "to see beyond the chair because not all disabilities are visible".

Scary reality of the times. Please seek support if you are in need, or be a support to those who may need it.

"Because of longer work hours and stagnant wages, millennials suffer from higher rates of burnout than other generations. Many of them have even quit their jobs for mental-health reasons.

Structural factors at play behind the uptick in "deaths of despair," according to the Trust for America's Health and Well Being Trust include the myriad financial problems millennials are facing: student-loan debt, healthcare, childcare, and an expensive housing market ... People who have died by su***de were eight times more likely to have debt."

Depression and "deaths of despair" are on the rise among millennials, many of whom suffer from loneliness, money stress, and burnout in the workplace.

Striving to better understand each individual’s context and experience is at the heart of all my clinical work. This article does a good job of describing the process of case formulation - a core component to clinical psychologists’ education and practice, and the antithesis of the pathologizing “biological disease” model of mental health.

A “formulation” gathers the biological, psychological and social factors that lead to a mental illness — and offers clues to the way out of suffering.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Athens, GA

I specialize in helping adults, adolescents, and couples struggling with a wide range of issues and concerns.

Having extensive generalized and specialized training, I help people gain relief from challenges and provide opportunities to better know and understand themselves.

Committed to working collaboratively and understanding the uniqueness of individual experience, my goal is to help people lead more satisfying, meaningful, and joyful lives.

My work is inspired by the growing neuroscientific evidence that continues to prove the centrality of relationships in the formation of a healthy, stable sense of self. Formerly a professional musician, I believe that therapy is both a science and an art. As a relational, psychodynamic-integrative clinician, I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship can be transformative, and that our future does not have to be defined by our present or our past.
