Paddlefish have arrived! Aren't they cool? You can find them in the Reservoirs and Habitat exhibit.

Paddlefish are the sharks of the freshwater world, only in the way that they look similar and have skeletons made of cartilage. On average, they are 5 feet in length and weigh about 60lbs. They get this big by scooping up tiny plants and plankton that filter through their gill rakers.

Texas State Bass Tournament Hall of Famers stopped by to visit the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame located here at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center! Pictured from left to right with their year of induction, Dan Dale (2022), Charlie Ford (2019), and Gary Vick (2014). We sure enjoyed hearing all of their stories and sharing in the camaraderie!

Kathy Magers, a professional woman angler, spearheaded efforts to involve women and children in fishing. Magers hosted two family-oriented outdoor television series and served as the national spokesperson for the Women's Sportfishing Foundation. She was instrumental in convincing B.A.S.S. to develop a national professional bass fishing tournament circuit for women.

The Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame seeks to recognize and honor those who have made a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in Texas and to foster awareness and appreciation of and participation in the sport of fishing.
