FB family and friends - I want to share something very special and exciting. Most of you know and remember that I was diagnosed with Mucosal Melanoma, a very rare and aggressive cancer, in 2015. I was able to beat the odds and became a survivor by participating in a clinical trial in 2018. As a result, I have become very active in the MM community as an encourager and an advocate. One of the greatest needs for those with this diagnosis is finding current and up to date information regarding treatment and outcomes. With others, we have worked to speak out and raise awareness wherever and whenever we could. Recently, after the loss of one of our special warriors, her husband and family established a foundation and created a website that would give newly diagnosed patients and their caregivers the information and tools to navigate their journey. It was my honor and privilege to be a part of the website development team. Today we officially launched our page! I want to share this news with you and hope that you will also share it and help elevate the awareness of this rare cancer. Thank you to each one of you who was a part of my cancer journey through prayer and support. Happy New Year!

Dr. Cook and Riley King, Medical Assistant attended the Southeast Family Medicine Forum in Washington DC Grand Harbor. Learning about issues ranging antibiotic resistance, vaccinations, quality care management and legislation recently passed by the Southeastern states.

The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians Member Committee, Nomination Committee and Board of Directors accepted and approved Jonathan Mitchell Mitch Cook D.O. FAAFP as the GAFP Family Physician of the Year 2022. The award will be presented to Dr. Cook at the GAFP Annual Meeting held in Atlanta, GA November 11,2022. The employees of Clarke-Oconee Family Medicine would like to congratulate Dr. Cook on this highest honor from his peers.

FDA Advisory Committee votes against Booster Vaccine for all ages except for people’s older the 65 years old and immunocompromissed patients.

What does this really mean? The Advisory Committee (AC) reviewed evidence and testimony from Pfizer and voted NO due to lack of medical evidence to support the need to a booster for people less than 65 years old.
What does this mean? FDA is following scientific evidence.

A recent study by Israel showed that 84% of the population was fully vaccinated and 86% of cases were fully vaccinated.

In a recent report by the CDC MMWR July 2021 reported of breakthrough cases of vaccinated people who gathered in large gathering were infected by COVID Virus.
Data does support the current vaccine usage since it decreases the severity of symptoms, hospitalizations and death from the virus!
HOWEVER:
1.Does this data mean that the Current vaccine does not fully protect us from the Covid Variants?
2. Does this mean that a new vaccine with multiple strains need to be in production? (Influenza vaccine has 4 different strains, Pneumonia Vaccines and 13 and 23 different strains, HPV has 9 diffent strains….just stating the science)
