Dental Designs at Athens is committed to offering the best care possible for each patient and we are also committed to training the next generation of dentists so it is with great pleasure that we introduce you to Jordon Renard, our first intern in our new partnership with Lincoln Memorial University. LMU is our first dental school in East Tennessee so we are very excited to have this opportunity. Jordan is a 4th year dental student at LMU . He will be working directly under Dr. Trott's supervision to give excellent care to our patients. Jordan is the president of LMU's first dental student organization, the LMU CDM Pediatric Club, acting as a liason for the American Student Dental Association, and he co-organized Give Kids a Smile, a free annual dental care event for children. When Jordon is not practicing dentistry or serving his community he enjoys spending time with his fiancee, reading about history, following college football and spending time with a child from the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. Come on over to the office to introduce yourself to Jordon. You won't regret it.

Not all sweet treats are created equal when it comes to how harmful they are for your oral health. Although no candy is genuinely good for your teeth, it’s important to realize that some candy is considerably worse for teeth than others. Dark chocolate is one of the best choices because it washes away easily, but sticky candies like caramels love to hang around and cause cavities. Moderation and smart choices are the key to tackling your sugar cravings. Which is your favorite candy? Let’s hear it below! ⬇️

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3

What exactly does poor in spirit mean? Maybe it means that happiness comes from having a humble attitude. Happiness comes from knowing that we need God and that we trust God.

Praying we all practice having humble hearts; hearts that know we need God; hearts that trust God!! Happy Wednesday!!!

GUM...Good or bad on your oral health? Great question!!!

Here are some answers for you:
CONS:
-Sugary gum feeds bacteria which creates acid that erodes tooth enamel.
-Excessive chewing can cause sensitivity and increased tooth wear.
-Excessive chewing can also overwork your jaw muscles causing pain, inflammation and jaw disorders.
-Some people experience headaches and even migraines from excessive chewing.
-Gum, especially sticky kinds, can damage existing dental work like crowns and fillings.

PROS of gum with ADA approval (not the sugary brands):
-Increasing saliva which helps wash food particles away and neutralizes acids benefitting teeth and gums.
-Can reduce plaque build up which helps prevent cavities and gum disease
-Great way to freshen up your breath.
-Some brands contain CPP-ACP which helps remineralize tooth enamel.

If you’re considering veneers, it’s extremely important to see a licensed dentist to place them.

Veneer services from unlicensed individuals, or “veneer technicians,” may come with potential risks for infection and nerve damage, and an unlicensed individual may unknowingly place veneers over unhealthy teeth. Unsupervised dental treatment from unlicensed individuals has the potential to cause damaging complications for patients.

For safe and effective treatment, visit Dental Designs at Athens for your veneers.

Did you know that if you drink 3 or more glasses of a sugary drinks per day you have 62% more likelihood of suffering from tooth decay, fillings and tooth loss. We would encourage you to put down the pop, sports drinks, sweet tea, etc and replace it with nice fresh water instead. Changing this one habit will not only improve your oral health but will also improve your overall health. One step at a time we can become stronger versions of ourselves. You can do it!!!

Have you noticed small notches near the gumline of your teeth? This could be tooth abfraction, a condition caused by excessive stress on the teeth from clenching, grinding, or an unbalanced bite. Over time, this stress weakens the enamel, leading to sensitivity, structural damage, and an increased risk of decay.

If left untreated, abfraction can worsen, affecting both the strength and health of your teeth. At Dental Designs at Athens, we can help identify the cause and recommend the best treatment, whether it’s a nightguard, bite adjustment, or restorative care.
