I am heartbroken and outraged by the recent ruling in Franklin County that upholds the ban on gender-affirming care for minors in Ohio. As a gender q***r person myself and a counselor, I witness every day the incredible strength and resilience of transgender youth, and I know just how vital affirming care is to their well-being and survival. This decision feels like a devastating blow, not just to the individuals directly affected, but to the entire transgender community and our allies.
This ruling doesn’t just deny essential medical care; it invalidates our existence and sends a painful message that our lives and identities are not valued. For transgender youth, who are already navigating a world full of challenges and discrimination, this law adds yet another layer of fear and uncertainty. It takes away their right to make critical decisions about their own bodies and futures, decisions that can mean the difference between despair and hope, between life and death.
To every transgender person and ally reading this, my heart aches with you. We are more than statistics and legal battles; we are human beings with dreams, hopes, and the right to live our lives authentically. This ruling is a harsh reminder of the work that still needs to be done, but it also reinforces the power and necessity of our community’s solidarity and resilience.
In these dark moments, let’s hold onto each other tighter. Let’s amplify our voices, share our stories, and continue to fight for a world where every person, regardless of their gender identity, can live freely and safely. We will not be erased. We will not be silenced. Together, we will continue to push forward and demand the dignity and rights that every human being deserves.

The law can now go into effect after being passed earlier this year.
