With just two weeks until Election Day, the future of trans and gender-expansive youth hangs in the balance. The wave of anti-transgender legislation sweeping the U.S. is not just a political issue—it’s a life-and-death crisis. Transgender teens are facing an unbearable reality. A recent CDC study revealed that 25% of transgender youth have attempted su***de in the past year. The Trevor Project warns that these cruel laws have driven su***de attempts up by as much as 72% among transgender and nonbinary youth.

But even in the face of this heartbreak, there is a glimmer of hope. Research shows that just one loving, affirming adult in a transgender teen’s life can lower the risk of su***de by 40%. That person could be you. Your support, your compassion, your vote—these are the things that can save lives.

This election, we have the chance to show trans youth that they are not alone, that they are seen, and that they matter. By voting for leaders who will fight against these devastating laws, we can help create a world where transgender teens feel safe, loved, and valued. Every vote counts, and every vote could mean the difference between despair and hope.

I am heartbroken and outraged by the recent ruling in Franklin County that upholds the ban on gender-affirming care for minors in Ohio. As a gender q***r person myself and a counselor, I witness every day the incredible strength and resilience of transgender youth, and I know just how vital affirming care is to their well-being and survival. This decision feels like a devastating blow, not just to the individuals directly affected, but to the entire transgender community and our allies.

This ruling doesn’t just deny essential medical care; it invalidates our existence and sends a painful message that our lives and identities are not valued. For transgender youth, who are already navigating a world full of challenges and discrimination, this law adds yet another layer of fear and uncertainty. It takes away their right to make critical decisions about their own bodies and futures, decisions that can mean the difference between despair and hope, between life and death.

To every transgender person and ally reading this, my heart aches with you. We are more than statistics and legal battles; we are human beings with dreams, hopes, and the right to live our lives authentically. This ruling is a harsh reminder of the work that still needs to be done, but it also reinforces the power and necessity of our community’s solidarity and resilience.

In these dark moments, let’s hold onto each other tighter. Let’s amplify our voices, share our stories, and continue to fight for a world where every person, regardless of their gender identity, can live freely and safely. We will not be erased. We will not be silenced. Together, we will continue to push forward and demand the dignity and rights that every human being deserves.

“Say her name”
Sonya Massey!

Sonya Massey’s story is a painful reminder of the systemic issues that continue to plague our society. Her life mattered deeply, and we must honor her memory by advocating for meaningful change. Outrage alone is not enough; we must act. We must demand justice for Sonya and countless others who have fallen victim to racial violence and police brutality. We must push for systemic reforms and hold those in power accountable.

I recognize my privilege and the responsibility it brings. Silence is not an option!

On June 29, a Dayton police officer shot and killed 16-year-old Brian Moody. Once again, we bear witness to police and gun violence that repeatedly traumatizes BIPOC communities. Our hearts are with the family and friends of Brian Moody, as well as the entire Dayton community. We stand with the movement and all who seek accountability and reform for injustice at the hands of the state. Today we commemorate Juneteenth, a significant day in American history that symbolizes freedom and the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of their freedom, marking a crucial step towards justice and equality.

Juneteenth is not just a day of remembrance but also a celebration of resilience, culture, and the ongoing journey towards true equality. It's a moment to educate ourselves about the history and experiences of Black Americans and to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to address racial injustices in our society.

I stand in solidarity with the Black community and am committed to being an ally in the fight against systemic racism. Let’s use this day to learn, listen, and act, honoring the past while building a more inclusive future.

Happy Juneteenth!
