Congratulations, Drs. Aaron S. Chang, Frederick L. Flynt Jr., and Ashley Ray! These incredible UCBC physicians have been recognized as Top Doctors in the January issue of Modern Luxury Medicine + Doctors magazine.

“Breaking down barriers to care while continuing to offer high-quality, advanced treatment options remains an important priority for us,” says Jamie Maurer, CEO of University Cancer & Blood Center. “Receiving this honor is a meaningful reminder that we’re able to bring the level of care often associated with larger cities right here to Athens and the surrounding communities."

Today marks the start of HPV Prevention Week, a time to spread awareness about Human papillomavirus (HPV) and how you can prevent it!

As University Cancer & Blood Center medical oncologist Dr. Aaron Chang explains, HPV is the strongest risk factor for head and neck cancers.

The good news? HPV is potentially preventable with vaccinations! By receiving the HPV vaccine, you can significantly lower your risk of developing an HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer.

While the HPV vaccine is most effective in children and young adults, there are significant benefits to receiving it in your mid-20s, and some adults may even benefit from receiving the vaccine into their mid-40s.

We recommend discussing the HPV vaccine with your University Health Alliance primary care provider to see if it's right for you at your age!

Did you know that the HPV vaccine can be critical for cancer prevention? If given prior to exposure to the HPV, it’s effective for preventing most cases of cervical cancer!

The vaccine can also prevent other types of cancer and infection, including vaginal and vulvar cancer, ge***al warts, and cancers of the mouth, throat, head, and neck.

Although the HPV vaccine is most effective when given to children ages 9-12, some individuals may still benefit from receiving it as adults. We recommend discussing HPV vaccination with your provider to make the best possible decision for you!

We are thrilled to announce that Breast Friends is back for its 2nd year—building on last year’s incredible, sold-out success!

This special event was created by a group of friends to honor and support women affected by breast cancer and to provide guidance for those seeking answers about their health. It’s a day filled with life-saving education, heartfelt stories, and the power of friendship, love, and community.

Early detection saves lives, but conversations around screening, family history, hormones, and prevention can feel overwhelming! That’s why Breast Friends brings together expert speakers, open Q&A forums, and a safe, welcoming space for women ages 30–60 to connect, learn, and feel supported.

Mark your calendars now for February 7, and get your tickets here: https://ucbccares.org/breast-friends/
