🌿 Nature is Healing & Access Matters! 🌞

Humble Warrior Wellness & Yoga nonprofit is proud to partner with The Vet Space nonprofit and work alongside Senator Kenya Wicks, a retired U.S. Army Veteran, in support of SB 190, the Georgia Honor and Wellness Act. 📜 🇺🇸 🌳

This legislation would provide free access to Georgia State Parks for Veterans, active-duty service members, Gold Star families, and military families—removing cost as a barrier to wellness, connection, and restoration.

For many Veterans, especially women and those navigating post-service transitions, time in nature is not a luxury—it is an essential pathway to holistic well-being. 🌲

📣 Call to Action: Please consider sharing this post and letting community leaders and elected officials know that access to nature for Veterans, military members, and military families matters. Also, support Mental Health Hill Day at our Capital February 18th!

📱Why We Can't Stop Scrolling
Social media platforms are designed to keep us hooked, the endless feed, auto-play, new content refreshes trigger small bursts of dopamine every time we swipe. That "just one more scroll" loop isn't just habit - it's neurobiology.

⚠ What's the Cost?
The term "dopamine-scrolling" describes this specific behavior: compulsively scrolling for novelty rather than purposeful connection. It's linked to fractured attention, increased anxiety, and weakened social interaction, especially in younger people.

🌎What We Can Do About It
It's time for a multi-prong approach:
~ Platforms can build smarter features: auto-limits, less infinite scroll (out of our control)
~ We can build digital literacy: recognizing the loop, choosing when not to scroll
~ Institutions / policymakers can act: regulate the design of addictive algorithms (out of our control)

✨Take-away:
Don't just scroll, choose when to engage. Awareness is the first step to breaking the cycle.

📱Tech Time-Out 📱
Our last featured Wellness Anchor of the month is taking a second look at screen time. How much time and energy is being wasted on our screens? Too much! Let's look at some ways to help reduce that and by doing so gain presence and peace.

🌅 Try a Low Dopamine Morning

If your day starts with stress, rushing, or scrolling, your brain might be getting overwhelmed with too much dopamine too fast.
A Low Dopamine Morning helps you reset by choosing calm, simple habits first.

Here's How:
📱Delay screen time for the first hour (that includes your phone, computer, and tv)
📚 Read a physical book instead of checking your phone
🧶 Do a simple analog task: crossword, knitting, journaling - use your hands!
🍃 Step outside for fresh air or a short walk
🧹Tackle one easy chore (make the bed, tidy up, laundry, dishes)
🧘‍♀️ Add gentle grounding: breathwork, meditation, or soft music

Starting flow helps your brain regulate, boosts focus, and sets the tone for a more intentional, grounded day. 🌿✨

🌬 Breathe Better: Box Breathing 🌬
Try this breathing practice first thing in the morning or any time you need a reset:
Box Breath: equal counts of a 4 part breath. Try starting with the count of 4.
Inhale for the count of 4
Hold your breath lightly for the count of 4
Exhale for the count of 4
Suspend (the pause between your exhale and next inhale) for the count of 4
Retreat this breath (or increase the count equally) and notice how you feel.
