For three years, Kevin Damask was blessed with the greatest job he's ever had: capturing veteran stories for the My Life, My Story program at the VA hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. That’s saying something, since he's had some pretty cool jobs—such as spending 18+ years as a journalist, covering everything from high school football to murder trials. But his true calling was writing stories about veterans in their own words.

Did this spring’s daylight savings time change leave you feeling slightly off balance? That’s normal! The body’s internal clock needs time to adjust.

Here are simple ways to reclaim your time and restore balance:

🐈 Move with intention: Try 3–5 rounds of seated cat–cow or slow neck rolls at your desk or in your cruiser to gently reset your nervous system.

😮‍💨 Pause to breathe: Inhale for 4 counts, exhale for 6, repeating for 1 minute between calls, patients, or meetings.

💤 Prioritize rest: A 20–30-minute nap can improve alertness without grogginess, and aiming for a consistent bedtime helps regulate your rhythm.

💻 Plan purposeful blocks: Work in focused 45–60-minute segments, then step away for 5 minutes to hydrate, stretch, or step outside.

Time may shift, but with steady practices, you can support your body and move through the season with calm and clarity.

Have you ever considered serving on a nonprofit board? Humble Warrior Wellness & Yoga, Inc is seeking a Board Secretary to join our team.

📝This volunteer role involves:
• A few hours (4–6 hours) each month
• Attending our bi-monthly virtual board meeting and recording meeting minutes
• Being a full voting member

💪Who we're looking for:
• Women who serve or served
• We especially welcome individuals who practice a holistic wellness modality (like yoga, meditation, or journaling)
• We would love to add a first-responder voice to help balance our veteran-centric board

You're invited to join Humble Warrior Wellness & Yoga's virtual book club, the Sip 'n Read Sisters! 📚☕️

Our selection for April is The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst—a romantasy filled with magic, community, and the courage to begin again. 🪄🔮✨

We gather virtually on Zoom the second Tuesday of each month at 8–9 p.m. EST. Pour a cup of tea, a glass of water, or your favorite cozy drink before settling in, then enjoy a facilitated discussion around reflections and favorite moments from the book. If you answer the surprise question correctly (and first!), a wellness care package is mailed to you.

"I’ve been sitting with something I don’t hear talked about enough in warrior spaces: rest."

After decades in the military, one of Humble Warrior's board members, Dé, recently stepped away from a life that trained her to stay alert, productive, and mission-ready at all times. Even in moments of downtime, her body knew how to pause, but not rest. Before entering her next career, Dé made a deliberate choice to rest in between. She learned that rest isn't passive. It’s intentional. It’s protective. It’s restorative leadership.

Calling all creatives! Humble Warrior Wellness & Yoga invites our community to help co-create something meaningful: The Humble Warrior Coin 🌟

This coin will symbolize belonging, holistic healing, community strength, and women serving women. We invite women veterans, first responders, supporters, artists, and community members to contribute ideas that reflect these values.

This is a collective creativity invitation, rather than a contest. Our community is welcome to submit design ideas, phrases, symbols, or sketches. Our board will thoughtfully synthesize submissions into one final design that reflects the heart of Humble Warrior.

You may submit:
- A hand-drawn or digital design
- A meaningful symbol or image concept
- A short phrase or inscription (3–8 words)
- A brief written description of your vision

Last month, Humble Warrior guided an intentional "Mindful Pause" for the women serving in the Georgia Department of Public Safety, during their annual conference at Unicoi State Park.

Supporting the theme of "Controlling the Noise," we provided mindfulness practices to foster connection, ease, and resilience. The practices are meant to equip participants with practical tools they can carry into their daily lives.

Attendees—who included Georgia State Patrol Troopers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, and Capitol Police Officers—gave positive feedback on the "Mindful Pause" session. One attendee shared that the "class ignited discussion and a flurry of good questions from the young troopers and officers. The chair yoga was a hit and showed everyone you have time for self care.”

We thank these professionals for their service to our communities!

Congratulations to the graduates of the Let It Begin 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training! 🎉 Our eleven students graduated in February.

This training was thoughtful and transformative, and designed around yogic core competencies rooted in ancient wisdom and evidenced-based practices. Whether the students joined to deepen their personal practice, explore yoga philosophy, or prepare to teach, all were welcomed. For those called to teach, we wish them well as they share yoga with others!

The training was made possible through partnership with Let It Be Yoga (LIBY) and the collaboration of a great instructional team: Chanda Ross Clements (LIBY owner), Clorinda Roache, Mel Berzack, and Raquel Durden.
