The Healthy Brain Campaign (HBC) is an alcohol awareness and educational campaign aimed at informing residents of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia about the harmful effects of underage drinking on the developing brain. The earlier a person consumes alcohol, the more likely they are to suffer consequences and long-term effects. HBC is made possible by funding from the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) office of prevention services. DBHDD has developed a Georgia Strategic Prevention System (GASPS) to create a comprehensive model to build capacity and infrastructure with the state regions and sub-regions through key policy stakeholders and resources mobilization, coalition, and workforce development, and research infrastructure enhancement. The Clarke County School District is one of approximately 40 providers selected to be part of the GASPS initiative. The initiative aims to impact the harmful effects of underage and binge drinking among youth and young adults, ages 9 through 25.
